As an entire enemy faction, the Illuminate naturally come with their own dastardly means of opposing democracy in Helldivers 2. Monoliths and Cognitive Disruptors are two of the squids’ towering structures that can pose a threat to players in a mission, and taking them out should be a priority.
Fighting the Illuminate in Helldivers 2 will become much more complicated while Monoliths and Disruptors are active, and if chucking explosives at either of these buildings isn’t working, here’s what you should try out next.

The long-awaited Illuminate faction finally arrived in Helldivers 2’s latest update, bringing a new type of firepower to the battlefront.
How to Destroy Monoliths
Monoliths are towering structures that often appear as main mission objectives during Illuminate Invasion campaigns. They’re often heavily guarded, and while confirmation is still pending, they seem to increase the number of Voteless that spawn during missions while they’re active, making Monoliths priority targets for immediate destruction.
Unfortunately, Eagle 500kg Bombs and Orbital Precision Strikes don’t appear to work on Monoliths, which means Hellbombs are the players’ only option. Still, it’s best to bombard the immediate vicinity of an Illuminate Monolith first before attempting to arm a Hellbomb, as they are usually guarded by Tesla Towers that can kill Helldivers in one shot.
The Tesla Towers are also vulnerable to explosives, and a single grenade is often enough to destroy one. After shooting one with an entire MG-43 magazine, they seem to be immune to ballistic and energy damage that have no Demolition Force behind them, so if your weapon can blow up a Bug Hole or Automaton Fabricator, then it might not do anything to an Illuminate Tesla Tower. Regardless, Impact Grenades are your best tools for destroying these defenses.
Touching an Illuminate Monolith results in instant death. Players will also be slowed when they get too near one.
How to Destroy Cognitive Disruptors
Disruptors look a lot like Monoliths, but they have one clear purpose: they scramble your stratagem code inputs. When you approach a Cognitive Disruptor, your HUD will start to fluctuate, and every stratagem you have will have their inputs shift to a completely random one every three or so seconds. These are similar to the Stratagem Jammer side objective in Automaton missions, but with one key difference — Cognitive Disruptors won’t stop you from using stratagems at all.
If you find yourself near one, know that you can still use everything you’ve brought with you during the mission. However, Cognitive Disruptors cannot be destroyed like Monoliths. Instead, they are disabled by shooting power supply units near the Disruptor itself. The batteries appear as capsule-shaped alien devices that are usually spread around a square-shaped pattern around the Disruptor. Shoot all of them, and the Disruptor will shut down.
Saturating a Disruptor with heavy explosives sometimes works, but the fastest way to take one down is to run up to the batteries and shoot them. They aren’t as detrimental as Stratagem Jammers, but you may still want to take them out as soon as possible just to make the mission go much smoother.
