After leaking earlier this week, Helldivers 2 is officially getting a crossover with PlayStation sci-fi shooter Killzone 2, with the first batch of cosmetics for the multiplayer shooter available today.
Helldivers 2 will feature two waves of Killzone 2 content, with the first featuring cosmetics including a Helghan uniform for your freedom-toting trooper, a StA-52 assault rifle, and an assortment of capes, banners, and player titles. This is the first crossover of this kind in Helldivers 2, after developer Arrowhead said it was open to the idea if it “makes sense”. Given the shared genres between the two games, Killzone seems like a good fit.
In a blog post, developer Arrowhead stressed that this content belongs to a new premium tier of content. The new weapon costs 615 Super Credits, about $6-7, while the individual armor pieces are 310-500 Super Credits each.
With the release of the first wave of Killzone 2 cosmetics, Arrowhead also explained that it’s testing out longer rotations in the game’s Superstore. “Right now, many of you feel the items are in rotation for too short a time, and that you sometimes miss out on that killer look you had your eyes on,” the post reads. “At the same time, the more things we add to the store the longer it takes to come back into rotation.”
This means that this first wave of cosmetics will stick around for five days, while the second batch will arrive on December 23 for the same amount of time. Arrowhead says it’ll then return to shorter rotation times as it determines whether or not the experiment has yield better results via feedback from players.
This Killzone 2 crossover comes hot on the heels of a big update to Helldivers 2 less than a week ago. The Omens of Tyranny update introduced the zombie-like Illuminate faction to the shooter, as well as new urban environments to wage skirmishes in. It’s capped off a big year for Arrowhead’s sequel, which was the fastest-selling PlayStation game ever having sold over 12 million copies in its first three months on the market.
