It’s been a tumultuous first year for Helldivers 2. The game had a stunning launch but was quickly followed by a series of review bombings for seemingly unjust weapon nerfs.
All of that is hopefully in the past, though, as with awards season underway, Helldivers 2 isn’t doing too badly. The game scooped four awards at The Golden Joysticks, including Console Game of the Year, and another two, Best Multiplayer Game and Best Ongoing Game, at last week’s Game Awards.

To celebrate this fact, members of the Arrowhead team has revealed that PlayStation has gifted them a life-size John Helldiver statue.
John Helldiver Has Been Immortalized By Sony
In a recent update, John Helldiver was canonized in Helldivers 2 lore. What started as a play on the ‘John’ trope, with the likes of John Halo and John Warhammer suffering the same fate, quickly became a reality.
John Helldiver then rose to further prominence, appearing on stage at The Game Awards, delivering a rousing message about the return of the illuminate.
Now, the character has been immortalized even further, with a life-sized statue of him being delivered to Arrowhead HQ, courtesy of PlayStation.
Shared on Twitter by Helldivers 2 chief creative officer Johan Pilestedt, Sony’s gift to Arrowhead is a sight to behold. The statue looks to stand around six-foot tall before its giant base is taken into account, and shows big John H standing, fist clenched, arm furled, celebrating managed democracy. Under John’s giant boot is a squashed Terminid, undoubtedly destroyed by him and his powerful allies.
December has been a good month for the Helldivers 2 team. Alongside its awards, the Illuminate returned and were quickly destroyed by players. This update has seen players return in their droves, propelling Helldivers 2 back into Steam’s top-sellers charts.
