Akatsuki Games has officially announced shutdown of their popular Japanese basketball-themed simulation title, Hachigatsu no Cinderella Nine, following its end-of-service announcement. A sequel to the Cinderella Nine game, it had a successful run of seven years, during which it even launched a novel, manga, and an anime.

For those unfamiliar, Hachigatsu no Cinderella Nine was a free-to-play, Japanese baseball-themed simulation game, set in the same world as the Cinderella Series by Akatsuki Games. In this game, you take on the role of a former basketball ace who became a coach after an injury.
After joining a local high school, you get the opportunity to meet Tsubasa Arihara, who is the main heroine of the game and persuades you to be their manager and coach. You become the coach of the girls’ basketball team where she is a key member.
Unfortunately, the game has shutdown the servers following the schedule outlined in the end-of-service announcement on Akatuki Games’ official website. In the announcement, the devs stated, “We have decided to end service for “August Cinderella Nine” with the update of the final episode of the main story on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.“
Some good news for the dedicated fans
Although this is very disheartening, as a game holds many memories for its players, there is some good news for you. The devs have clarified their plans to release version 8.9.0 of the game, which is an offline version now playable, excluding a few of the features. Additionally, they have also introduced the final chapter of the story, which was available till yesterday.
Not only this, the devs also promised to offer refunds for for all paid Nine Star accounts, and the refund period is now live and will run until March 17, 2025. However, it is important to not uninstall the game if you had unused paid Nine Stars in your account until your refund has been processed.
