GTA 6 Has Set an Unfortunate Record for Rockstar Games

Summary

  • GTA 6 now has the longest time gap between its first and second trailers compared to previous Rockstar titles.
  • 379 days have passed since GTA 6’s Trailer 1 debuted, breaking GTA 5’s record of 378 days.
  • With no indication of GTA 6 Trailer 2 anytime soon, some fans are concerned about a potential delay to 2026.

Grand Theft Auto 6 has now gone the longest amount of time without a new trailer since its initial reveal than any other Rockstar Games title. The very first trailer for GTA 6 aired over a year ago, and Rockstar’s radio silence since then has surpassed the likes of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.

As one of the most-awaited games in history, GTA 6‘s Trailer 1 was a huge deal when it debuted back in early December 2023. Understandably, it didn’t take long for many Rockstar fans to start coming up with numerous theories about the potential release date of GTA 6‘s Trailer 2. While some of the speculation stretched all the way to the moon, one of the most popular theories surrounding GTA 6 Trailer 2 relied on marketing timelines for prior Rockstar titles like GTA 5 and RDR 2. The second trailers for both these games debuted roughly one year after their initial reveals, and many expected a similar time gap for GTA 6 Trailer 2.

Over one year has passed since GTA 6 Trailer 1 aired, however, and there’s nothing to suggest that Trailer 2 is coming anytime soon. At the time of writing, GTA 6 has officially gone over 379 days and counting without a new trailer, dethroning GTA 5 as the Rockstar title with the longest time gap between its first and second trailers. GTA 5‘s first and second trailers had 378 days between them, whereas RDR 2‘s second trailer came 343 days after the first. This information was recently pointed out by Twitter user GTAVI_Countdown, who has evidently been keeping track of how long Rockstar is taking to release GTA 6 Trailer 2.

GTA 6 Trailer 2 is Taking Longer to Release Compared to Any Previous Rockstar Title

  • GTA 6: 379 days and counting since Trailer 1
  • GTA 5: 378 days between first and second trailers
  • Red Dead Redemption 2: 343 days between first and second trailers

What makes the GTA 6 situation even more dire for fans is that Rockstar released in-game screenshots for both GTA 5 and RDR 2 leading up to their second trailers. For GTA 6, though, it almost seems as if Rockstar has committed to an information blackout, with no new details, images, or artwork provided since the launch of Trailer 1 last year. Throughout the entirety of 2024, the only notable official announcement surrounding GTA 6 was the confirmation of a fall 2025 release window.

With only a few weeks left until 2024 closes out, it seems highly unlikely that Rockstar fans will see GTA 6‘s Trailer 2 this year. This has raised some concerns about the game potentially being delayed to 2026, but the prospect seems unlikely given that both Rockstar and Take-Two have repeatedly affirmed to shareholders that GTA 6 will stick to its fall 2025 release window. However, development deadlines for ambitious AAA games can often be fickle, so one can only hope Rockstar breaks its radio silence around GTA 6 and clears the air soon.
