Summary
- Only one male 5-Star character has been introduced in Genshin Impact since Version 4.1.
- The community has expressed concern over the lack of new male characters in the game.
- Players may have to wait until Version 6.0 to see another male 5-Star character, according to a leak.
A recent Genshin Impact leak from a reliable source has revealed that Kinich will be the only male 5-Star in the Natlan era, further implying that Capitano won’t be playable until at least Version 6.0. The cast of playable characters in Genshin Impact has more than quadrupled since launch, and while it maintained a balanced gender ratio for most of its history, a recent trend has stirred unrest in its community.
Since the release of Neuvillette and Wriothesley in Version 4.1, Genshin Impact has only released one male 5-Star character: Kinich in Version 5.0. As a 5-Star Dendro Claymore from Natlan, Kinich was a welcome addition to the cast. He maintains a strong presence in the meta, has a unique play style that complements both Burgeon and Burning teams in Genshin Impact, but his presence in the story leaves a lot to be desired. Many players feel that the developers have treated male characters as an afterthought in 2024, even though 4-Stars like Sethos and Ororon have certainly had their time to shine.

A recent Genshin Impact chart reveals which characters have defined the meta in the latest Spiral Abyss cycle, with Chasca being a notable star.
However, recent information provided by DK2 via hxg_diluc may stoke the flames of controversy even further, as Genshin Impact will seemingly release zero male 5-Stars until Snezhnaya. This means that from November 2023 to September 2025, Genshin Impact will have introduced only one male 5-Star character. While male characters such as Baizhu, Kazuha, and Neuvillette in Genshin Impact have enjoyed frequent reruns on the Event Banners, it would seem that the developers are less interested in making new male 5-Stars.
Genshin Impact: Upcoming Characters in 5.x
- Mavuika – 5-Star
- Citlali – 5-Star
- Lan Yan – 4-Star
- Mizuki – 5-Star
- Iansan – 4-Star
- Varesa – 5-Star
- Unknown – 5-Star
- Ifa – 4-Star
In terms of upcoming Genshin Impact characters, not only is Ifa the sole male character on the list, but he is also a 4-Star. If the leak ends up being true, then it is safe to assume that the mystery character in Version 5.6 will be a female 5-Star who isn’t from Natlan. Unfortunately, this also implies that Capitano won’t be playable in the Natlan era, as some players speculated that the mystery character’s spot was reserved for him.
Given Capitano’s fate in Genshin Impact, players should be prepared for the possibility of Capitano not being playable at all. Not much is known about Snezhnaya beyond its general location, but the Fatui Harbingers have plenty of members that could become popular male 5-Star characters, such as Pierro and Dottore. Furthermore, the list only goes down to Ifa, and there are four more characters missing from the full Natlan cast. While the chances of getting a new male 5-Star earlier than Snezhnaya are slim, there is precedent for Genshin Impact changing its plans down the line. Version 5.3 is set to launch on January 1, 2025, while Version 6.0 is speculated for September 10, 2025.
