Marvel Snap’s Marvel Rival season introduces Doom 2099, an alternate version of Doctor Doom with a highly impactful ability: Summon DoomBots onto the board that can buff all other Doom and DoomBots in play. This ability is especially threatening as Doom 2099’s Bots are Ongoing cards, allowing you to retrigger their effects with cards like Onslaught or buff them with Spectrum and Captain America. Here’s a META deck designed to maximize Doom 2099’s potential in Marvel Snap’s current metagame.

Doom 2099 Deck Synergies
- Doom 2099 and Doctor Doom spread Power by summoning Bots, which can later be used to produce buffs or benefit from them.
- Zabu and Psylocke provide Cost discounts, allowing you to play Doom 2099 as early as turn three.
- Onslaught and Mystique double the Ongoing effect of key cards.
- Captain America and Spectrum boost your Ongoing cards.
- Magik extends the match, giving you more time to spread Power.
- Wong doubles the On Reveal effect of cards like Doctor Doom, Psylocke, Zabu, or Spectrum.
- Armor is a tech option and can also benefit from buffs due to her Ongoing nature.
- Ant-Man grows larger when locations are filled with Bots, and as an Ongoing card, he can be buffed by cards like Spectrum.
Ant-Man, Magik, and Mystique can be considered flex options in this deck.
How Doom 2099 Works
Like Peni Parker, who was added to the roster earlier, Doom 2099 has a rather complex ability and is also a summoner, with his summons carrying their own unique text. If you’re confused about Doom 2099’s mechanics in Marvel Snap, here’s everything you need to know.
Doom 2099’s Bots Fly to Random Locations
Doom 2099’s DoomBots are RNG-based. At the end of each round, if the prerequisite is met, Doom 2099 will summon one Bot to a random location. While you can reduce the RNG by clogging lanes, this often backfires, as you want Doom 2099 to summon as many Bots as possible.
DoomBot 2099 Cards Have a Prerequisite
Doom 2099 will only summon a Bot if you’ve played exactly one card in the previous round. Skipping the round or playing more than one card will prevent the summon for that round. However, Doom’s memory resets the following round, so you can play one card and get a Bot the next round.
Cards like Mister Sinister, which summon another card onto the board, still count as playing one card and will trigger Doom 2099’s effect. You just need to avoid “playing” more than one card.
DoomBot 2099 Cards Can Target Doctor Doom and Its Bots
DoomBot 2099 is an Ongoing card that buffs all other Doom and DoomBots on the board. This buff effect isn’t exclusive to Doom 2099; any other Doctor Doom or DoomBots on the board will be buffed as well.
You Can Get One Last DoomBot 2099 After the Final Round
If Doom 2099 is in play and you play only one card on turn five, you’ll summon an additional DoomBot just before the game ends. This detail is crucial, as the extra Bot at the end of the match can break a tie or secure a win. Similarly, in a seven-round match, playing exactly one card on turn six will grant you an additional Bot at the end of round seven.
Doom 2099 cannot summon a DoomBot if there is no empty slot on the board.
How to Counter Doom 2099
Countering Doom 2099 is tricky for several reasons: 1) He’s not an On Reveal card, so Cosmo won’t stop his Bots; 2) His Bots’ buffs are Ongoing, so Shadow King won’t be effective; and 3) Since his Bots appear in random locations, it’s hard to target them with Enchantress. You’re left with a few tech options: Shang-Chi, Red Guardian, Super Skrull, and junk cards.
- With Shang-Chi, you can target Doom 2099 or his Bots that exceed ten Power.
- Red Guardian removes the text of Doom 2099, but it’s a tricky tech, as Red Guardian might miss Doom 2099 if there are weaker cards or cards with the same Power in his lane.
- Super Skrull copies the Ongoing effect of all enemy cards, making it a strong response to an Ongoing-heavy Doom 2099 deck.
- Junk cards like Annihilus, Hobgoblin, and Green Goblin are also effective counters because Doom 2099 needs space on the board. If you clog one or two of the enemy’s lanes, Doom 2099 becomes much less useful.
Is Doom 2099 Worth It?
Given Marvel Snap’s recent struggles with new drops, Doom 2099 could be considered one of the game’s best new cards in a while. Not only does it offer high Power-distribution potential, but it also introduces a fresh play style that’s more engaging than, say, Arishem’s META.
If you’ve been holding onto your Spotlight Keys or Tokens, hoping for a fun-to-play card that brings Marvel Snap back to its early days, now’s a great time to spend them—Doom 2099 might be the card you’ve been waiting for.
