Although it is not the deepest quote ever said in a piece of media, Satipo’s final words to Indiana Jones serve as a nostalgic throwback to the first film in the series, Raiders of the Lost Ark. During the prologue of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, you will play through a familiar sequence during which the iconic archeologist gets betrayed by the two Peruvian porters who are supposed to guide him through the jungle.

While Barranca gets out of the picture much sooner, Satipo sticks around till the end, until the tomb starts to deteriorate, and he also tries to betray Indiana Jones, but, of course, he gets impaled by one of the booby traps on his way out, resulting in the protagonist returning the farewell by saying “adiós, Satipo.”

When Indiana Jones decides to ditch his responsibilities at Marshall College just before the midterms and head on his adventure around the world, his friend and fellow lecturer Marcus Brody drops some golden wisdom that the archeologist does not really take seriously. The purpose behind Brody’s quote is probably a reference to Indiana’s inability to keep his promise to Marion Ravenwood, but Jones takes it literally and asks his friend to watch him run away from his problems.

Funnily enough, during the rest of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle’s runtime, there are plenty of instances where the protagonist actually has to run because many of the problems that he encounters are life-threatening.

“Your Own Face Betrays Sins That Cry To Heaven For Vengeance.”

It is refreshing to see a villain who is just pure evil for the sake of it and does not have any elements that make him a sympathetic character, and every word that comes out of Emmerich Voss’ mouth is hilariously unhinged. However, his introduction in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle actually presents him as quite a menacing antagonist, with his first conversation with Father Cesare Ventura setting him up perfectly.

“I believe, Father Ventura, there are fates worse than death,” threatens Voss, as he orders the Vatican priest to follow his command because if he does not, the German archeologist will besmirch the holy reputation that the helpless Cesare has managed to build among the people of the city.

“Nothing Is Quite So Easy To Manipulate As An Insecure Male.”

– Emmerich Voss

Wehrmacht colonel Viktor Gantz, who is supposed to be the secondary antagonist in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, was ordered by Adolf Hitler himself to keep an eye on Emmerich Voss’ shenanigans. But the first time you meet the Nazi officer, the kind of disrespect that the German archeologist shows towards him is hysterical.

With no regard for chain of command or consequences, Voss keeps roasting Gantz when they reunite in Gizeh, comparing him to a “village idiot” and telling him that his company is even more ‘tiresome’ than the Vatican priests. As Gantz tries to sit in the same vehicle as Voss, which clearly has more than enough space to fit another person, the archeologist refuses to let him in, and when he leaves, Emmerich continues to be savage with the amusing “insecure male” quote.

“What You Have Is Your Stupid American Cartoons. Choo Choo.”

The Wehrmacht colonel gets his own moment to shine with a humorous monologue at the top of the Himalayas, during which he criticizes Indiana Jones and Americans for not really having a clear purpose in life, unlike the Germans, who are committed to serving their country. Upon capturing the protagonist, Gantz tells him that all America is good for is its “stupid American cartoons,” taking a dig at Disney by repeating “choo choo” in reference to the iconic Mickey Mouse train sequence.

The German officer does not just stop there, telling Indiana that Americans keep laughing, dancing, and drinking beer that tastes like “piss” to celebrate their “own idiocy,” as a result of which Gantz truly gets the chance to add some much-needed personality to his character.

Directly after the Himalayas chapter in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Indy, Gina, and Viktor get teleported to Shanghai, where the final encounter between the American archeologist and the German officer takes place. Although the colonel had already told Indiana Jones that he is invincible at the top of the snowy mountains, repeating it just before getting impaled by the falling debris in China results in a fitting farewell moment for the egotistical officer.

You would think that a proper showdown and an extensive fight would ensue between Jones and Gantz, especially because of how the MachineGames title builds towards it, but it turns out that the colonel was actually not invincible, leading the protagonist to congratulate his dead body.

It wasn’t exactly a surprise that Emmerich Voss wasn’t too fond of Viktor Gantz, but when he confronts Indiana Jones and his group at Sukothai in Siam, he makes sure he pays respect to his fallen comrade in the most Voss way imaginable. Being responsible for some of the most memorable quotes in the entire game, Voss refers to the German colonel as “Gantzwurst,” which is a play on the word bratwurst, stating that he knew what fate would befall a naive patriot like Gantz.

That is directly followed by Voss exclaiming, “Heil Hitler,” showing that although his Nazi allegiances are still intact, he couldn’t care less about the death of Gantz as long as he achieves his goal.
