Marvel Rivals: 10 Best Default Costumes For Characters, Ranked
From Jeff The Land Shark to Moon Knight, Marvel Rivals delivers on giving its many heroes and villains instantly iconic costumes from the start.
While Duelists are the ideal class of character for damage per second, those in the Vanguard and Strategist classes can provide what the more action-oriented players are looking for. It’s not just the main attacks to look out for though, as the characters also feature just as effective abilities to back them up.
10 Wolverine
Logan’s Adamantium Claws Are Not Just For Show
- Class: Duelist
- Difficulty: 3/5
- First Appearance: Incredible Hulk #180
Wolverine is the best there is at what he does and what he does is not very nice. Logan is armed with his iconic Adamantium blades that he uses to slash through anything in sight, with both basic attacks and special abilities, allowing him to diminish the health of heavy characters quickly, especially when his Berserker Rage is activated.
Thanks to his healing factor, Wolverine is also one of the few characters who can heal themselves without the help of a Strategist character. This allows him to enter a fight, do damage, take damage, and keep going. Additionally, his lunge ability can potentially defeat an opponent with a single strike if timed and positioned correctly.
9 Peni Parker
Her Mech Is Filled To The Brim With Dangerous Weapons
- Class: Vanguard
- Difficulty: 3/5
- First Appearance: Edge Of Spider-Verse #5
While Peni Parker does have a fast basic attack in the form of heavy cannons on her shoulders, she has more to back those up with. If the player puts a few Arachno Mines down combined with her Spider-Nest, which sends out drones that track enemies, and her web snare to trap them, she can eliminate players in seconds.
Peni Parker also features a Team-Up ability with Venom that allows her to unleash a symbiote barrier that deals damage to surrounding enemies. She is a constant barrage of damage, but her being a large mechanized spider with slow movement leads to her being a target for other players, so newcomers should never think that Peni is invincible.
8 Venom
Storming And Striking With Symbiotic Strength
- Class: Vanguard
- Difficulty: 3/5
- First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man #300
It would be easy to suspect that a big monster like Venom would have lumbering attacks, like his claws or swinging his tendrils. Instead, Venom features four tendrils that attack at once, almost akin to a four-round burst weapon, and they chip away a lot of damage already.

Marvel Rivals currently features 33 characters for players to choose from; here is how the villains of the line-up compare to one another.
The tendrils are especially deadly if Venom uses his Cellular Collision to slow down his foes, to make sure they don’t escape his attacks. On top of that, Venom can swing fast through the various maps, which makes him good for flanking and escaping if needed, but he can follow up his swings with an explosive symbiote strike, good for surprise attacks.
7 Scarlet Witch
Chaos Magic Is The Worst Kind Of Magic For Enemies
- Class: Duelist
- Difficulty: 1/5
- First Appearance: X-Men #4
If a player doesn’t want to worry about precision, Scarlet Witch is there for them because her main attack tracks an opponent and drains the life from them using chaos magic. This attack is already ridiculously overpowered, but Wanda can back it up with bursts of chaos magic as a secondary attack and a barrier that deals damage as long as a foe is inside it.
Finally, she possesses one of the strongest ultimate attacks in Marvel Rivals, in which she unleashes an explosion of chaos magic across her current location and very few characters can survive it. As a result, Scarlet Witch has quickly gained a reputation as a Duelist that the community fears.
6 Cloak & Dagger
They Are As Deadly As They Are Healthy
- Class: Strategist
- Difficulty: 3/5
- First Appearance: Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man #64
One of, if not the best Strategists in Marvel Rivals is Cloak & Dagger, two characters in one. When Dagger is out, she deals minimal damage but has some of the most effective healing abilities on the battlefield, but it’s when she swaps out for Cloak that the character becomes a menace.
Similar to Scarlet Witch, Cloak saps life away from a foe and his attack is just as effective. Additionally, he can stun and blind enemies using his powers of darkness. His abilities practically turn Cloak & Dagger into a fusion of a Strategist and a Duelist, which can lead to frustrating matches for the enemy team.
5 Moon Knight
Trapping Enemies And Serving Khonshu As The Fist Of Vengeance
- Class: Duelist
- Difficulty: 3/5
- First Appearance: Werewolf By Night #32
Moon Knight is already armed with crescent darts which he can throw three at a time and those alone make him effective in any fight, especially if he combines them with his gliding ability. However, what makes Moon Knight especially dangerous is his Ankhs, which are turret traps, that attack anyone within range.
If Moon Knight combines his Ankhs, crescent darts, and his ultimate attack, which summons Khonshu to smite his enemies, very few stand a chance. It also helps that Moon Knight is one of the fastest-moving characters, so he can disappear and reappear from the flanks or from behind to keep dealing damage, at the risk of having lower health as a Duelist.
4 Spider-Man
Web-Slinging Is Complex But Deadly
- Class: Duelist
- Difficulty: 5/5
- First Appearance: Amazing Fantasy #15
The players going in expecting the same gameplay as the Marvel’s Spider-Man games might be in for a shock. Spider-Man in Marvel Rivals can be taken out in seconds by an opponent if the player is not careful with him, but he balances that out by featuring fast attacks, from web-zipping to throwing punches.
Spider-Man is a more complicated character in Marvel Rivals, forcing players to constantly think on their feet, web-swinging, and zipping around to dodge foes while implementing fast abilities. For example, his ultimate ability leaves him exposed but is almost as dangerous as Scarlet Witch’s attack.
3 Star-Lord
Peter Quill Is Like Overwatch’s Tracer But With Flight
- Class: Duelist
- Difficulty: 2/5
- First Appearance: Marvel Preview #4
With his Element Guns, Star-Lord can be one of the more deadly Duelists in Marvel Rivals. Similar to Tracer from Overwatch, Star-Lord dual-wields pistols that fire rapidly and, since they are two weapons, the main attack mows through an enemy fast. To make it worse, Star-Lord can instantly reload with a flip ability, allowing him to keep firing.

Veteran Overwatch players can fit right into Marvel Rivals thanks to heroes like Hawkeye and Black Widow who mirror their favorite OW characters.
If Star-Lord is surrounded by enemies, he can unleash his Blaster Barrage, which is exactly what it sounds like. He blasts his Element Guns in all directions rapidly and this attack on its own can wipe out a whole team, but he can also back it up with Galactic Legend, which allows him to lock on to enemies and never miss.
2 Iron Fist
He Lives Up To His Title In Multiple Ways
- Class: Duelist
- Difficulty: 4/5
- First Appearance: Sword Master: Warriors Of Three Sovereigns #1
Complaints that a character is overpowered are overused in hero shooters, but sometimes it is warranted, such as in the case of Iron Fist. He has quickly gained the reputation of being one of the most overpowered characters in Marvel Rivals due to his ability to absorb enemy attacks and counter them with a deadly barrage of magic punches that can demolish even the strongest Vanguards.
Iron Fist can also heal himself, run on walls, and unleash other melee-based special attacks, which has turned him into the bane of many players in the Marvel Rivals community. If he is paired with a healer, it almost feels like Iron Fist is unstoppable, which has already led to some angry players.
1 The Punisher
Frank Castle Is A Walking Weapons Cache
- Class: Duelist
- Difficulty: 1/5
- First Appearance: The Amazing Spider-Man #129
Very fittingly for the character, The Punisher is purely a damage-inducer. He wields an assault rifle, shotgun, and smoke grenade launcher which are paired with a deployable machine gun turret. Even The Punisher’s ultimate attack is an exo-suit with more machine guns that can slice through an opponent in a few seconds.
Not only is The Punisher the ideal character for fans of classic shooters, but he’s also one of the easiest for newcomers to play in Marvel Rivals. All that is needed to make him effective is a somewhat proper aim, and he can wipe out entire teams, especially when paired up with the right Strategists at his side.
