Aventurine’s Shield Bug in Honkai: Star Rail Explained

Aventurine's Shield Bug in Honkai: Star Rail Explained

The sustains in Honkai: Star Rail keep the whole team alive through swarms of enemies and massive swipes from tough bosses. As such, players can easily feel it when something goes wrong with such units, like what happened to Aventurine after the Version 2.7 update. He’s currently the best sustain in the game, so many players decided to pick him up during his rerun one major patch ago. Therefore, it’s a bit of a bummer that an important part of Aventurine’s kit, his A6 Major Trace: Bingo!, isn’t working as intended.

For those unfamiliar with Aventurine’s abilities, his main job in Honkai: Star Rail is to consistently protect his allies with his Fortified Wager, a massive shield that can stack. Under the right circumstances, his teammates’ health bar will receive little to no damage when he’s around. One way he can consistently do this is through his “Bingo!” A6 passive, which provides a Fortified Wager to allies every time Aventurine launches his follow-up attack. Unfortunately, this integral part of his kit is bugged and there’s no definite date for a fix just yet.

How One of the Effects in Aventurines A6 Trace Stopped Working in Honkai: Star Rail Version 2.7

Aventurine’s Bingo! Is one of the most loaded A6 Traces in the game. It essentially has three effects:

  • Blind Bet Boost: When a teammate launches a follow-up attack, Aventurine gains one Blind Bet point. This is a charge that he accumulates to launch his own follow-up attack.
  • Follow-Up Shields: When Aventurine launches his follow-up attack, he provides shields to every teammate equal to 96 plus 7.2% of his DEF.
  • Additional Shielding for Allies in Need: This trace will also provide an additional Fortified Wager shield on top of the first one to the ally with the lowest shield effect.

The problem lies in the third effect. Aventurine mains started noticing that their teammates who had the lowest shields weren’t getting the additional protection they needed when version 2.7 came around. This was explored further by Reddit users like saltedfis in the r/AventurineMainsHSR subreddit. During a fight, the player found that the unit (Topaz and Numby) with the lowest shield effect got the same shielding as their allies when they should have gotten double that amount. Other players started to notice this issue in their gameplay too, and soon the subreddit was filled with posts about the bug and asking when it would be fixed.

How the A6 Trace Bug Affects Aventurine’s Playability

Fortunately, this latest bug is not a big hit to Aventurine. He is currently known as one of the best sustain units in Honkai: Star Rail because he’s simply overpowered compared to his peers. He provides shields at the start of the match and every time he does his follow-up attacks. Therefore, he rarely has to use his Skill to reactivate his shields. Fortified Wager also scales with DEF, so players can build this stat and ensure that Aventurine’s ally HP bars are fully padded.

Aventurine is Still a Top-Tier Sustain Despite the Bug

Ultimately, this issue just makes Aventurine a little less overpowered. The ally with the lowest shield effect still gets protection when Aventurine triggers his A6. They just won’t get the double shielding that players normally expect. If anything, his Skill Point efficiency may drop a bit, as one may need to activate Cornerstone Deluxe more often to keep their lowest shield effect ally fully protected. His ability to bail out his lowest-shielded teammates may be hindered now, but players will likely only need this in specific situations in high-difficulty endgame modes like the upper echelons of Honkai: Star Rail‘s Apocalyptic Shadow.

Despite the latest bug affecting his shielding, Aventurine is still playable and remains the best sustain in the game; he’s just not as comfortable or optimal. Those who want to play him at his peak effectiveness can rest easy though, as HSR’s developer has officially recognized the issue. However, it is still reviewing it and there is no definite date for a fix just yet.
