A platform-fighter relies heavily on its roster, and that’s especially true for crossover fighters like MultiVersus, where a major appeal of the game is seeing a wide variety of pop-culture icons coming together. MultiVersus‘ original beta roster was fairly solid, delivering a good mix of characters from across Warner Bros.’ IP. That roster has only gotten more diverse since MultiVersus‘ re-release in May, with the likes of Beetlejuice, Agent Smith, Jason Voorhees, Samurai Jack, and most recently, Adventure Time‘s Marceline all joining the ongoing brawl.




Some recent leaks suggest that MultiVersus‘ roster is far from finished. Back in November, leaker NotAusilMV (who’s since been suspended from Twitter) posted a supposed screenshot of one of MultiVersus‘ upcoming stages, depicting a river boat filled with frog passengers set against an autumnal backdrop. Over the Garden Wall fans recognized this setting immediately, with it referencing the miniseries’ sixth episode. While it hasn’t been confirmed yet, it’d be great to see an Over the Garden Wall stage in MultiVersus, though there are arguments both for and against it receiving fighters as well.

Over the Garden Wall’s Cast Could Lead to Some Fun Fighter Abilities

Despite only lasting 10 episodes, Over the Garden Wall is home to a varied cast of colorful characters, many of whom could fit the bill as a MultiVersus fighter. Of course, the most obvious pick for a MultiVersus x Over the Garden Wall fighter would be central protagonist Wirt (voiced by Elijah Wood), but it might be more interesting if his little brother Greg was added alongside him, the two acting as a duo fighter similar to the recently released Powerpuff Girls who swap in and out of combat.

Wirt and Greg’s trusty allies could also appear in the form of the duo’s special attacks. For instance, Wirt could call upon the human-turned-bluebird Beatrice to swoop in and strike an enemy, while Greg could throw his trusty frog companion into enemies to knock them back. Wirt and Greg’s moveset could also feature references to some of the miniseries’ most memorable moments and quotes, such as Greg taunting a foe with a “Rock Fact.”


Over the Garden Wall Deserves More Recognition

One of the biggest arguments for MultiVersus getting fighters from Over the Garden Wall is that it would give the miniseries more widespread recognition, which it certainly deserves. Heartfelt, surprisingly complex, funny, charming, and absolutely oozing with atmosphere, Over the Garden Wall has gradually gained more popularity with older audiences in the decade since its initial 2014 release, but it’s still relatively unknown. An appearance in MultiVersus could finally give Over the Garden Wall the attention it’s owed.

Over the Garden Wall Is Not an Action-Oriented Series

But there’s one major argument against Over the Garden Wall getting its own fighter in MultiVersus, and that’s the miniseries’ almost complete lack of action. While MultiVersus has plenty of kids cartoon characters, they all come from shows that at least dabble a little in action. Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and even Tom and Jerry all have their fair share of on-screen tussles. Even Scooby-Doo has brief moments of slapstick violence and frequent chase sequences.


Over the Garden Wall, however, features practically no action. Though it has scary monsters and other fairy-tale threats, most of Over the Garden Wall‘s antagonists are defeated through less overtly violent means, and many turn out to not be villains at all.

It might be a bit tonally-jarring and even unfaithful to the source material if characters like Wirt and Greg were suddenly thrown into a fighting game like MultiVersus, where they’d face off against the likes of Friday the 13th‘s Jason Voorhees or The Matrix‘s Agent Smith.
