The back half of 2024 has been particularly busy in terms of new DualSense designs, and turns out there’s still room for one more before we round out the year, and it’s the most surprising one yet. MiYoHo has unveiled a limited edition DualSense design for Honkai: Star Rail, but the controller is going to be even harder to come by than the Monster Hunter Wilds PS5 accessories that are exclusively available in Japan.
MiYoHo revealed via Honkai: Star Rail’s Twitter account that the game will be getting a physical release on PS5 in January 2025. A bundle that will be released in different regions on different days next month will include a set of holographic cards, a keychain, and a postcard along with a physical copy of Star Rail. Buying that won’t get you the newly revealed DualSense, though.

For now, that’s the only way you can get a Honkai: Star Rail DualSense controller. There has been no mention of it being made available to buy, and if other contests like this are anything to go by, there’s a very real chance it will never go on sale. The likelihood is that five of these controllers have been made, and the five lucky winners selected whenever the contest period ends will be the only Honkai players who ever get a chance to use the controller.
Honkai will join quite a few other games to receive their own PS5 controllers this year, although the others have been available to buy rather than limited to giveaways. Astro Bot and Concord both have DualSense controllers, but neither is currently in stock. PlayStation also revealed a Helldivers DualSense last week to coincide with its Illuminate update dropping.
As for controllers tied to contests, Honkai’s DualSense is far from the first. It is odd to see PlayStation do it though as Xbox is the studio that has become notorious for limiting popular controller designs to contest winners. Its Indiana Jones Series X with matching controller was a one-of-a-kind situation, and the Deadpool and Wolverine controllers with detachable bums were also given away via a competition rather than sold to the thousands dying to throw money at them.
Honkai: Star Rail is a free-to-play RPG from the creators of Genshin Impact. It follows on from Honkai Impact 3rd, and includes both new and returning characters, battling to save the universe from a malevolant force.
