Sonic The Hedgehog Characters Who Deserve Their Own Movie

Sonic The Hedgehog Characters Who Deserve Their Own Movie

Summary

  • Rouge could star in a spy thriller to explore her mysterious backstory.
  • Black Doom’s rise to power could provide a thrilling character study in a movie.
  • An Omega movie focusing on his journey of revenge against Eggman would be a thrillride.

The Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise is in full swing, and seeing as the third movie is placing a lot of its focus on fan-favorite character Shadow, it begs the question of who else from his immensely popular franchise could have their own big-screen adventure. Though the Sonic the Hedgehog universe has no shortage of individuals who could play the role of protagonist, the type of movie that they would be involved in would need to suit their personality for it to work.

Despite his best efforts, these villains managed to best Sonic thanks to their immense power and keen intellect.

Additionally, while one-off characters or those with only brief cameos in the games may not be the most interesting to watch, characters who are able to receive development and maybe reveal a little more about their backstory would be a perfect fit. Therefore, it’s time to take a look at which individuals within the Sonic video game universe deserve to have a movie based around them, and what exactly that movie would look like in action.

8 Rouge The Bat

A Spy Thriller Movie Featuring Rouge Could Delve Deeper Into Her Mysterious Backstory

Sonic Adventure 2

Released
June 19, 2001

Developer(s)
Sonic Team USA
  • First Appearance: Sonic Adventure 2

Rouge has always been a pretty mysterious character. Sure, it’s well established that she’s a cunning jewel thief who is always looking to get her hands on anything that sparkles, but why she became so obsessed with treasure, and how she became a thief in the first place, remains shrouded in obscurity.

If Rouge had her own movie, it could be made into a spy thriller that documents one of her intense escapades trying to steal away an emerald or diamond. Additionally, the movie could shed light on how she came to be this way — and if they really wanted to, it could even expand her character by fleshing out her complex relationship with Shadow. Needless to say, there’s more than enough to Rouge’s character to base a whole film around her life and hobby.

7 Black Doom

Black Doom’s Rise To Power Would Make For A Thrilling Watch

Shadow the Hedgehog

Platformer

Action-Adventure

Third-Person Shooter

Released
December 15, 2005

  • First Appearance: Shadow The Hedgehog

Black Doom honestly feels like a character whose backstory is begging to be explored. The mysterious leader of the Black Arms is known to have amassed an army of aliens from his home planet, so if he were in a movie, the story could focus on his ruthless rise to power as part of a larger character study.

Since Doom’s DNA was used to create Shadow the Hedgehog, such a movie could also insert small parts of fan service by showing Gerald Robotnik and Maria along Doom’s journey. It could also help to expand further on Doom’s cynical view of humans, with his arrival on Earth being a perfect ending shot to finish on.

6 E-123 Omega

An Omega Movie Would Have To Focus On His Journey Of Revenge Against Eggman

Sonic Heroes

Platformer

Racing

Fighting

Action-Adventure

  • First Appearance: Sonic Heroes

A revenge movie featuring E-123 Omega as the leading star would be an absolute thrillride of a film to watch. Omega’s mission in life is simple; track down and defeat Eggman for sealing him away for so long, so being able to see Omega’s epic journey to achieving this goal would be a joy to see on the big screen.

Shadow and Rouge could also make cameos, considering they are commonly affiliated with Omega, and there could even be some exposition given about Eggman’s robots and how they view their own master.

5 Eclipse The Darkling

Exploring Eclipse’s Status As The Ultimate Soldier Within A Movie Could Help Garner Sympathy For The Character

Sonic Archie Comics Eclipse the Darkling

  • First Appearance: Sonic Universe #59

Eclipse was designed to be the ‘brother,’ or rather, the foil of Shadow the Hedgehog. He’s a cruel, violent, and mean-spirited imitation of his counterpart who plays a big role in the Archie comics, but what if fans were able to witness his creation and journey as part of a movie?

This could grant an insight into Eclipse as a character, how he views his position in the Black Arms, what he thinks of Black Doom, and how he compares himself to Shadow. It could even garner sympathy for Eclipse if he were to see himself as inadequate and a failed experiment, just the same as Shadow, making for some unexpected emotional moments if the directors were to ever go this direction with him.

Metal Sonic’s Journey Could See Him Coming To The Realization Of Who He Is And Why He Was Created

Sonic CD

Released
November 19, 1993

  • First Appearance: Sonic CD

Metal Sonic is an AI imitation of the Blue Blur himself, created by Eggman as an attempt to capture Sonic once and for all. The reason Metal Sonic would make such an intriguing film protagonist is because of how, despite being a lethal warmachine, he also expresses signs of free will that present him as being much more complex than initially meets the eye.

To this very day, there are still so many questions surrounding these mysterious Sonic characters.

While the story of an AI becoming sentient has been explored numerous times before, basing it in the Sonic universe and having Eggman be the main villain would undoubtedly still be intriguing. While a darker and more mature story could therefore be told if Metal Sonic were to star in a movie, it would also come with plenty of epic action scenes, considering the weapons that this guy is packing.

3 Jet The Hawk

From His Relationship With His Father To His Role In The Babylon Rogues, There’s So Much That Could Be Explored

Sonic Riders

Released
February 21, 2006

  • First Appearance: Sonic Riders

Jet is an arrogant but talented Extreme Gear Rider who first debuts in Sonic Riders. Despite being such a prominent character in that game, Jet’s character is barely explored, including his relationship with his dad, who is presumed to have one day been a legendary rider himself.

A movie that chronicled Jet’s journey to becoming a racer would be not only a blast to watch, given how visually stunning it would be, but also a heartfelt viewing if it were to go deep into his presumably troubled relationship with his father. There’s also the opportunity to dive deep into Jet’s rise to becoming leader of the Babylon Rogues — and how Wave and Storm came to view him as an ally.

2 Silver The Hedgehog

Silver’s Time Traveling Abilities Would Make Him A Fun Movie Protagonist To Follow

Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)

Action-Adventure

Platformer

Systems

Released
November 14, 2006

  • First Appearance: Sonic The Hedgehog (2006)

Silver’s mysterious time-traveling powers would make him an excellent character to base a movie around, especially since it could easily feed into the wider universe of Sonic. Silver could travel to iconic areas of the series’ past, like Green Hill Zone and Angel Island, for example, before then moving to the future where he could show up in modern stages from the likes of Sonic Frontiers and Forces.

His relationship with Blaze could also be explored a little deeper than it was in Sonic 06 and would really go a long way in explaining more about this character who, admittedly, can seem a little confusing in the original material. If Silver doesn’t manage to show up in future Sonic movies, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be afforded his own film when considering the kind of story that could be born from his unique powers.

1 Blaze The Cat

An Easy Way To Justify A Movie Reimagining Of Sonic Would Be To Let Blaze Take The Leading Role

Sonic Rush
Systems

Released
November 15, 2005

  • First Appearance: Sonic Rush

There’s been an abundance of movie reimaginings and remakes over the years, and in the case of Sonic, an easy way to justify a revamp of the series in movie form would be to allow Blaze to take center stage. Similar to Sonic, Blaze is in charge of protecting a collection of precious emeralds, but she does so in an entirely different reality with different versions of existing characters.

Blaze’s universe is touched on in the Archie comics and Sonic Rush, but being able to get an entire full-length movie showing how it differs from Sonic’s world would be a real treat for longtime fans. As mentioned previously, this would also be an easy way to rejuvenate some life into the movie franchise if viewers end up ever wanting something a little more out-there and experimental.
