Pikachu, Blastoise, and Moltres ex are the next big promos.

However, while there’s a little of something to enhance almost every deck type within the game, Steel- and Dragon-type deck builders have been left disappointed with the lack of cards added for their typings.

Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket Adds One Dragon-Type, No Steel-Type Cards In Mythical Island Expansion

Most deck typings got some major enhancements this time around:

  • Water decks, which focused heavily on Starmie ex, Articuno ex, and Misty, got the new Vaporeon card.
  • Grass decks were blessed with Celebi ex and Serperior.
  • Fire decks got a better version of the popular Rapidash card.
  • Fighting decks got Marshadow and Aerodactyl ex.
  • There is some utility for the new Florges and Sigilyph card in Psychic decks. The same goes for Scolipede in Dark decks.
  • Tauros and Mew ex fit into almost any deck.

It’s a relative feast for deck builders. Unless you want to build a deck with Steel- or Dragon-type cards, that is.

Steel decks, which aren’t particularly common in the battling meta, are built around Meltan and Melmetal. The decks are fine, but without further reinforcement, they are likely to flounder. Unfortunately, with no additional Steel-type cards added in Mythical Island, that looks set to be the case.

Dragon-type decks are slightly different. With no specialized Dragon-type energy, they tend to be part of a hybrid deck— Dragonite is the perfect example of this. Much like Steel-type fans, though, Dragon-type users are out of luck as only a new Drudiggon card was added, and it is not great.

With these two types left in the dark, it will be interesting to see if things are course-corrected with the next expansion.
