PlayStation has had a massive 2024, and the PlayStation Blog awards have gone live, highlighting the games fans adored the most this year. The awards from PlayStation come the week after Geoff Keighley’s 2024 Game Awards stunned fans with reveals like The Witcher 4, the return of two beloved Capcom franchises in Onimusha and Okami, and Naughty Dog’s new big IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. All the while, Sony’s own Astro Bot took home the coveted Game of the Year trophy.
PlayStation’s 2024 is certainly one to remember. Massive titles like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Black Myth: Wukong, Silent Hill 2, Game of the Year winner Astro Bot, and the multiplayer phenomenon that is Helldivers 2 graced the console. Even titles like Stellar Blade and Team Ninja’s Rise of the Ronin received ample praise throughout the year. As the cherry on top, Sony released the PlayStation 5 Pro, a mid-generation refresh that caused some backlash for its hefty price, but provides 2TB of storage space and visual enhancements to a number of high-profile games.

As for indie games, the Poker-inspired roguelike Balatro won Best Independent Game as it did last week on Geoff Keighley’s stage. Looking ahead, Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei is PlayStation gamers’ most anticipated game for 2025 and beyond, beating Marvel’s Wolverine, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds. PS Blog explained Grand Theft Auto 6‘s absence in the category, noting that the same game can’t win two years in a row.
With 2024 nearly in the books, PlayStation fans are undoubtedly looking forward to what’s next in 2025. Ghost of Yotei and Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding 2 will most certainly be PlayStation’s heavy hitters. The games both stamped with vague 2025 release windows, so fans will need to wait a bit longer to find out when they’ll be able to get their hands on these promising-looking triple-A blockbuster titles.
