Overlooked DnD game Dark Alliance is being delisted from Steam soon

If you’ve been itching to check out more co-op DnD games after spending time with Baldur’s Gate 3, then Dungeons and Dragons Dark Alliance is worth looking at. The forgotten and overlooked co-op adventure launched to a mixed reception in 2021, but if it ends up looking like a game you and some friends might enjoy, consider this me giving you ample warning. Dark Alliance is being delisted from Steam fairly soon, and while you can still play it after that, you won’t be able to buy it or use the servers.

There are plenty of incredible games like Baldur’s Gate 3, but the closest you’ll ever get to that experience is with a fellow DnD game (or the original Baldur’s Gate games, of course). This is where the oft-overlooked Dungeons and Dragons Dark Alliance comes in.

A fantasy brawler with characters from The Legend of Drizzt novels, Dark Alliance casts you as one of four heroes. You’re either Drizzt Do’Urden, Catti-brie, Wulfgar, or Bruenor Battlehammer, with each having their own playstyle. Think of it like controlling the colorful cast from BG3, except Dark Alliance instead embraces third-person action combat over turn-based decision-making.

Since Dark Alliance launched, the game sits at a ‘mixed’ rating on Steam from nearly 4,000 user reviews, and it’s soon going the way of the digital dodo.

“We will be shutting down the Dark Alliance servers on February 24, 2025 and it will no longer be available to purchase starting that day. The base game and all DLC are still available to play in offline single-player by anyone who currently owns it,” the Dark Alliance Steam page now reads.

If you want to learn more about what the game was like on day one, our Dungeons and Dragons Dark Alliance review can fill you in. There have been some DLC and updates since launch, but as Ian pointed out at the time, “A cheeky take on Dungeons and Dragons lore isn’t enough to carry the lackluster combat, sluggish controls, and dodgy enemy hitboxes.”
