Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, the developer behind the Yakuza franchise, seems to be hinting that hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg could appear in its next game. One of the many big announcements to come from The Game Awards 2024 was Project Century, a new title being developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. Not much is known about it yet, with the biggest question being if Project Century will be yet another new installment in the Yakuza series or the start of a brand-new IP altogether.
Judging from the recent Project Century trailer, the game appears to be a third-person arcade brawler in the style of the older Yakuza games. It is set in Japan circa 1915 and features a main character that some fans think resembles Kazuki Kitamura, the actor who played main Yakuza protagonist Kazuma Kiryu in the 2007 live-action Like a Dragon movie. He might not be the only celebrity appearing in Project Century either, as a recent social media post hints that a beloved figure from the rap world with his own ties to gaming could be on board.

While it’s unclear if Project Century is connected to the Like a Dragon series, one detail shown in its reveal trailer could give away a huge hint.
Earlier this week, the official RGG Studio Twitter account shared a photo of Snoop Dog wearing the same jacket as the protagonist of Project Century with a caption that simply reads “…yet.” Around the same time, RGG Studio director Masayoshi Yokoyama posted a similar picture of himself wearing a similar jacket and striking a mirrored version of Snoop’s pose, with a Japanese caption that translates to “Please wait a moment.”
Snoop Dog Could Make a Cameo in Project Century
This doesn’t necessarily mean that Snoop Dog will appear in Project Century, as it could just be a case of him meeting with RGG Studio and taking a photo of himself in the jacket. After all, Snoop did appear at The Game Awards 2024, where he performed a live melody of a few of his songs and presented the award for Best Ongoing Game alongside his son and Death Row Games partner Cordell Broadus. The legendary rap artist has also lent his likeness to several video games over the years, so it wouldn’t be completely out of the question for him to play a role in the upcoming Project Century.
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio already has an impressive track record of celebrity guests in the Yakuza series and its spin-offs, with famous real-life wrestlers like Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kenny Omega lending their digital likenesses and grappling expertise to the ongoing crime drama. Next year’s Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will continue this trend with a guest appearance from former AEW and WWE champion Samoa Joe. Given that Snoop Dogg has been known to drop into WWE events and video games alike, he might be at home in Project Century should he indeed appear.
