Marvel Rivals has been out for almost two weeks now, and as we’ve seen with literally every hero shooter ever, people really don’t want to play the support class. Strategists are hard to come by, and treasured by the community when they are there. In fact, it was getting so bleak that many were calling for role queues to be implemented.
However, that isn’t going to happen anytime soon. Speaking with Dot Esports, Marvel Rivals’ creative director Guangyun “Guangguang” Chen says that the team would rather allow players to pick whatever team compositions they want than force them to play a certain way.
Marvel Rivals Lead Doesn’t Want To Add Role Queue
The devs want to focus on different compositions and make use of team-up skills
“Right now, we’re not considering a role queue,” says Guangguang. “The team’s goal is to offer a wider variety of team composition through team-up skills and their own designs, to let people play their Marvel superheroes rather than limiting players to choosing a role.
“We want people to have a Marvel experience where they’re free to select what they want,” he continues. “In our Competitive play recently, there is a lot of different compositions emerging from players and we’d like to continue to monitor these fun compositions and how they impact our game.”
True enough, Marvel Rivals has one thing going for it that games like Overwatch do not – team-up abilities. These can incentivize players to pick their heroes strategically since they’d be boosting a team member, or even giving themselves new abilities.
And of course, two vanguard, two duelists, and two strategists isn’t the only way to play. If you want, you can have three vanguards and three strategists, reminiscent of GOATs from the original Overwatch. That said, Overwatch veterans might not be so thrilled about that one.
