Marvel Rivals Fans Want Third-Person Perspective Aiming Fixed

Marvel Rivals has taken over the hero shooter genre, partly because it lets you play as and fight other Marvel characters, but also due to fans of the genre not being satisfied with the state of Overwatch. The superhero shooter not only represents beloved characters well, but the devs have also ensured that their powers lend well to gameplay.

Overwatch Ignorance Enhanced My Time With The Marvel Rivals Beta

I’ve never played Overwatch, so I didn’t endlessly compare it to Rivals during the beta.

Marvel Rivals is not without fault, though. Much like Blizzard’s shooter, the lack of role locks has resulted in the formation of team metas where certain roles are completely left out. However, there also seems to be an issue with the third-person perspective that affects aim accuracy in the game.

A Bit To The Right

If you’ve ever taken the time to study the aim accuracy of Marvel Rivals, you’ll know that aiming a bit to the left of enemies results in a missed shot. While that sounds completely normal, it seems aiming a bit to the right of them results in a direct hit. This also applies to melee attacks. This isn’t because the crosshairs are placed wrong, but due to a known issue with third-person perspective games.

As explained by cavsalmostgotswept in a Reddit post, “It’s not so much like a Marvel Rivals issue, this is just a third-person angle perspective deception.” Other games like Fortnite and Deadlock have compensated for this issue, but it seems Marvel Rivals has yet to address this deceptive design.

Players in the comments section noted that this is a common issue in TPS games that needs to be addressed during development. Smite was one of the games brought up that also suffers from this issue, but the devs have had time to work on it.

“I have like 3k hours on Smite and it definitely isn’t nearly as bad/offset compared to Rivals,” said one comment. “I really do wish it’ll be fixed further down the line to be less extreme, because having to force yourself to essentially not aim for the character model is very off putting.”

Another comment noted that this was an issue that many fans noted from the beta. “I put this as part of my feedback in both the alpha and beta and it never got addressed. Really hope it gets more attention, it’s a very frustrating part of the game for me.”

It seems this is a known issue with such games and devs have found various ways to work around it. Hopefully, Netease will find a way to do so for Marvel Rivals as well.
