Mafia The Old Country release date window, trailer, and more

What is the Mafia The Old Country release date? After eight years in late-60s New Bordeaux, developer Hangar 13 is finally bringing us back to where it all began. That’s right, we’re hopping continents for the next big Mafia installment, trading the streets of America for the vineyards of Sicily, but that’s not to say wine is the only liquid you’ll be staining your hands with.

Promising an exploration of Mafia’s criminal origins, Mafia The Old Country is being shaped up as a gritty prequel to the beloved mobster series, so don’t be surprised if you see a few familiar, albeit younger faces in the new PC game. To find out everything we know about the game so far, as well as when you can expect the Mafia The Old Country release date to materialize, read on.

Mafia The Old Country release date window

Mafia The Old Country will be released in Summer 2025. 2K confirmed the narrowing of the launch window during The Game Awards 2024. Mafia The Old Country will be available on PC via Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S consoles.

2K originally revealed Mafia The Old Country would arrive between April 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025 in a press release accompanying the game’s reveal trailer at Gamescom 2024. The presser stated that Mafia The Old Country would arrive “in 2025 (during Take-Two’s fiscal year 2026).” Take-Two’s fiscal year begins on April 1, leading to this logical date range.

The Old Country launch window departs from Hangar 13’s previous Mafia releases. Mafia 3 arrived on October 7, 2016, while Mafia Definitive Edition launched on September 25, 2020. Our money was on a late September or early October 2025 drop, but the good news is we’ll be getting our hands on it even sooner than originally predicted.

Until Hangar 13 and 2K confirm a more concrete launch date, you can at the very least head over to the game’s Steam store page and add it to your wishlist. It won’t do much for now except lightly taunt you, but at least you’ll have it there to look forward to.

Mafia The Old Country trailers

The first trailer we had for Mafia The Old Country is the official reveal teaser from Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024. Punctuated by gorgeous art, fine wine, and a hefty sawn-off shotgun, this sneak peek at what’s to come sets the stage for the game beautifully.

Though we already know The Old Country is set in 1900s Sicily, this is hinted at in the trailer’s very first shot, as we can see a bottle of wine on the table with ‘Sicilla’ on it, dated ‘1903’ – a fine vintage, we’re sure. We do see the back of a mystery figure make their way across the camera at the end of the trailer, though their identity is never confirmed.

From what we know of Mafia lore, we initially posited this figure could be a younger Don Salieri. After all, he emigrated from Sicily to America in 1908 – five years after the date on the wine bottle. We additionally surmised that, in light of this, the narrator could be Don Peppone monologuing Salieri’s inauguration into the Peppone family after he settled in Lost Heaven.

However, the prequel theory was shot dead with The Initiation Trailer, which instead introduces a new protagonist, Enzo Favara, as he takes his oath to the Torrisi family. Here we get sneak peeks at Sicily itself, as well as some of the cinematic and combat moments we’ll get to enjoy.

Mafia The Old Country story

Mafia The Old Country is, according to the official site, set in the “brutal underworld” of 1900s Sicily. Following antihero Enzo Favara, the gritty crime drama will have you live out “every tense moment of Enzo’s descent into Sicily’s clandestine criminal underworld.”

In a press release accompanying the reveal trailer Hangar 13 established that we’re in for a fight for survival, “with action brought to life by the authentic realism and rich storytelling that the critically acclaimed Mafia series is known for.”

Cementing the studio’s pledge to bring us a classic Mafia story, Hangar 13 president Nick Baynes promises a return to “the roots of what fans love about the franchise, crafting a deep, linear narrative with that classic mob movie feeling, visiting a stunning new setting, and delivering it all in a tight, focused package perfect for fans of immersive experiences.”

Mafia The Old Country news

Shortly after its reveal at Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024 in August, the game’s language selection was queried as Italian was notably missing on the game’s Steam page. Hangar 13 responded quickly, stating that not only would the voice acting come in Sicilian, but “Italian language localization will be available for both in-game UI and via subtitles.”
