Inside Out 3 Needs To Explore More Complicated Emotions

The Inside Out franchise is one of the most forward-thinking and mature within the Pixar universe. The two existing movies explore some heavy topics in a way that feels accessible to viewers of all ages. The bright colors and funny tones have allowed the emotions to be the central focus, but Pixar has hinted that there are even more complex emotions at play throughout the past two movies.

So far, Riley has been a reasonably young character and hasn’t needed to tap into them due to her life experience. However, if Pixar goes ahead and creates Inside Out 3, then it would be the right time to tap into that and take the movie to the next level.

Pixar Has Already Teased More Complicated Emotions

This Could Create Brand New Characters

Blending two current characters to create a brand new character would be an intriguing way of achieving a more complicated character. They could live in a different area, taking over when the situation arises, which could lead to conflict with the emotions as they fight to be the one helping Riley. Either way, many interesting creative angles could be taken with this, which proves how much more complex emotions could offer.

It Might Suit An Older Riley

Pixar opted to make Riley a slightly older character in Inside Out 2, which allowed her story to mature. Numerous emotions were added to the film, with Anxiety being the most prominent, which created some powerful scenes that wouldn’t have made sense for a younger character. Therefore, if Inside Out 3 continues to focus on Riley and the emotions inside of her, it would make sense for her to become older once again, which would demand more complex emotions.

People begin to experience more profound and more complicated feelings as they age; therefore, new emotions would make sense. Whether that’s done by two of the existing emotions working together or new characters being thrust into Riley’s brain remains to be seen. Riley could be heading to university in the third film or could potentially even be a parent herself. Either way, having more complicated emotions would allow her journey to continue, which would suit the audience, as many younger viewers will be growing up alongside her and, therefore, will be experiencing the same things.
