Genshin Impact has an ever-expanding world ready to explore, but the challenges you find demand you to be stronger. And to do that, you’ll have to bring down some big, tough enemies to get their Ascension Items. The Dendro Hypostasis is one of them.

Genshin Impact: Tenebrous Papilla Boss Guide
Tenebrous Papilla is a unique boss in Genshin Impact because it can mimic lots of enemies from the past. Learn how to beat it in this guide.
This angry cube is the main enemy you’ll be facing if you ever want to level up certain Dendro characters, and you’ll have to do it a few times if you’re looking to fully ascend them. Fortunately, getting to this boss and defeating it won’t be a hassle if you bring the correct team to the job.
How To Find Dendro Hypostasis
The Dendro Hypostasis can be found in the Land of Lower Setekh zone in the desert area of Sumeru, inside a small cave next to a lake. If you haven’t reached the Land of Lower Setekh Waypoint yet, you can climb the area below Aaru Village until you reach said Waypoint.
Once you find the Waypoint, drop down and you’ll see some Four-Leaf Sigils leading to a cave. Follow them and head through the cave’s entrance. Get ready for battle, as your enemy will be waiting for you at the end of it. Approaching it initiates battle immediately.
How To Beat Dendro Hypostasis
As with other Hypostasis, the Dendro Hypostasis is permanently infused with Dendro, making it very susceptible to Elemental Reactions with Pyro and Electro. On the other hand, it’s also invincible against Dendro attacks.
The core is its weak spot, and you can only damage the Hypostasis by hitting it. The core will be exposed after each of the Hypostasis attacks, so you’ll need to dodge them accordingly.
Once the battle begins, it’ll randomly use one of its moves, which are the following:
Attack |
Effect |
---|---|
Spores |
Launches three spores in the player’s direction, leaving a poisonous Dendro puddle on the ground. |
Ground Vines |
Attacks the player with four consecutive vine attacks. They can be burned with Pyro. |
Vine Combo |
Transforms into a vine and unleashes a combo attack around itself. |
Sky Drop |
After becoming a giant ball, jumps into the sky and lunges at the player three times. If you time it right, you can Burn it when it drops, canceling subsequent drops and exposing the core earlier. |
Vine Zone |
Surrounds a huge area with vines that slowly reach out to the core, causing a huge explosion when they touch it. Can be canceled with Pyro. |
Regeneration |
When the Hypostasis is defeated or is close to 0 HP, it separates into three Restorative Piths in an attempt to revive itself. These Piths must be purified with Dendro within time (around 20 seconds) or the Hypostasis returns with half HP. If you fail a second time, it’ll have less HP. Piths destroyed during this phase won’t return during a possible second revival attempt. Applying Electro on the Piths makes the process quicker. You’ll always be forced to complete this phase to finish the battle. |
As counterintuitive as it may sound, you need to bring a Dendro character to the battle. They won’t need to attack until the final phase, when they’re in charge of purifying the Piths. Simply hitting the Piths with Dendro once is enough.
The Spores and Ground Vines moves can be easily dodged by simply walking around the arena, while the other attacks all need you to dodge away from the Hypostasis.
If you’re using shields, you can take the hits directly to deal more damage to the Hypostasis’ core. This is particularly great if using a Pyro DPS, which cancels most of their moves.
Make sure you’re always on your main DPS to sneak some hits on the core, except when you need to renovate buffs or heal. While all characters deal damage equally to the Hypostasis, only Dendro users will finish it.
Don’t use your Pyro characters during the Regeneration phase, or they’ll slow down the process.
Best Teams For Fighting Dendro Hypostasis
Electro and Pyro characters are recommended to defeat the Dendro Hypostasis as they’ll give you an easier time dealing with most attacks. Some good team examples include:
- Arlecchino – Bennett – Nahida – Zhongli
- Hu Tao – Dendro MC – Xingqiu – Zhongli
- Clorinde – Fischl – Nahida – Zhongli
- Raiden Shogun – Xingqiu – Xiangling – Baizhu
- Keqing – Fischl – Nahida – Kazuha
Nahida is the best character for regenerating the Piths by far. If you don’t have her, Baizhu, Kaveh, or even the Dendro MC are also great picks. You might have to do a second Regeneration cycle, though.
Characters such as Yoimiya, Yae Miko, Ororon and Cyno are also great here, so don’t hesitate to bring them if you want. They might do even quicker work than the mentioned characters.
Any of your regular teams will work here as long as you have a Dendro character in them. If they don’t usually carry one, slot someone out for Nahida or any other Dendro.
Dendro Hypostasis Rewards
The main reward for defeating the Dendro Hypostasis is the Quelled Creeper, used for ascending Nahida, Kaveh and Yaoyao. Just like other bosses, collecting rewards consumes x40 Original Resin.
The exact amount of Creepers you get for each battle depends on your World Level, with two being the minimum past World Level 4 and three being the maximum if you’re lucky.
You’ll need from 16 to 23 kills against this boss to fully ascend a character, with the exact amount depending on RNG.
The boss also drops other items, and many of them are used to ascend Dendro characters in general:
- Nagadus Emerald Sliver
- Nagadus Emerald Fragment
- Nagadus Emerald Chunk
- Nagadus Emerald Gemstone
- Gladiator’s Finale Set Items
- Wanderer’s Troupe Set Items
- Adventurer Set Items
- Instructor Set Items
- Berserker Set Items
