While it’s debatable what the best stratagems in Helldivers 2 are, they all at least bring some form of excitement upon usage. The new urban environment further emphasizes that, allowing even the least powerful or desired options to stand out if utilized. As for how it does so, that would be because of things such as:

  • The many destructible objects or buildings close together means that stratagems that have devastating power, like the Orbital 380Mm He Barrage or the Eagle 500Kg Bomb, can further show why they’re so strong, allowing for more awe-inspiring scenes or moments of destruction
  • The whole area was made for people to carve new paths towards objectives or for escaping through destructive force, meaning players are encouraged to use whatever stratagems they want to blow things up

Arrowhead Game Studios could do the same for the Terminids and the Automatons by giving them their version of compact areas littered with destructibles. Although one can argue that both already have the Mega Nests and the Fortress Outposts as an alternative, they don’t provide the same sense of adventure or destructive potential that the update’s new area brings.


Arrowhead Game Studios could consider adding something like an underground Terminid hive or a large Automaton factory to explore or destroy from within, making the two even bigger threats while allowing more stratagems to be used and making the game more excitable. Should that happen, and they follow the design similar to the new area brought by the Omens of Tyranny update, then there’s no doubt that Helldivers 2‘s multiplayer experience will be better than before.

Aside from the return of the Illuminate, one of the biggest reasons for Helldivers 2‘s massive player count spike is likely because of the latest update’s new destructible urban environment and how it’s a fun place to use nearly any stratagem. Hopefully, Arrowhead Game Studios will add more areas like it in the future, as it can make the game look more appealing to potential fans while also helping it grow into something bigger.
