Harry Potter has many adorable characters aside from the main lead and titular character. Among the beloved characters are Hermione Granger, Luna Lovegood, Severus Snape, the twins Fred and George Weasley, Dobby, Ginny Weasley, Albus Dumbledore and more. Although fans were already exposed to many characters in the first eight movies, there were still more who didn’t make it to the cinemas, which avid readers knew was a huge missed opportunity since they could have added more fun into the films. However, many, especially those who didn’t read the books probably didn’t notice their absence. Fortunately, one of the missing characters from the movies will be making it onto the small screens when HBO drops its Harry Potter TV series.

HBO has confirmed that Peeves is among the characters that will appear in its upcoming TV series. However, it remains to be seen how much of the beloved character will be featured in the show, ComicBook reported. Peeves’ role could be expanded or reduced. In the movies, several characters had limited screen time, including Percey Weasley, Tonks and Lupin, the Dursleys and more. However, the series will run for seven seasons with eight episodes each. Each episode will run for an hour. So, there is a high chance that Peeves’ role will be expanded. However, considering the many characters in the book, if the production shows more of them, it could also mean more characters but less exposure.

Peeves is a mischievous poltergeist, and his unique personality makes him an unforgettable figure in J.K. Rowling’s books. His presence adds a layer of humor and unpredictability due to the chaos he brings from pulling pranks and causing commotion at Hogwarts. Peeves’ antics include pelting students with chalk, creating loud disturbances, and mocking authority figures with his funny rhymes and songs. He also takes delight in tormenting Umbridge. All of his antics bring comic relief, balancing the darker moments in the series. However, despite his mischievous and rebellious character, Peeves has shown his loyalty to Hogwarts by fighting with the students in the Order of the Phoenix against Umbridge’s oppressive regime. Peeves once again showed his loyalty in the Deathly Hallows when he attacked the Death Eaters under Professor McGonagall’s orders. Harry Potter initially planned to include Peeves in the films with actor Rik Mayall filming some scenes as the playful poltergeist. However, his scenes didn’t make it to the final cut.

There is no doubt that HBO made the right move by adding Peeves to the Harry Potter series. Peeves is a fan-favorite character and bringing him to life through the TV series will surely be a treat to the readers waiting to see him in person. Peeves has great potential and is a significant figure in adding life, fun, and chaos to the series, which is important to balance the dark and serious themes considering that the show will run for seven seasons.

The Harry Potter series will feature new and younger actors between 9 and 11 in the first season. The production is expected to take years, so it will continue as the young stars approach adolescence. The production team has already set up a plan to avoid age disparity, which the Netflix’s Stranger Things cast experienced.
