If there’s any company that nails narrative-focused action games, it’s Sony. The return of Kratos in 2018 led to God of War earning the coveted Game of the Year, and its follow-up, God of War Ragnarok, received similar acclaim when it launched back in 2022. Fortunately, the finale of the Norse duology dropped on PC earlier this year, and it’s currently available at its lowest price yet.
If you’re unaware of Kratos’ god-slaying adventures during the early Greek saga, or his new home in Norse mythology, I strongly suggest playing God of War (2018) before Ragnarok. Despite being six years old, it remains one of the best action-adventure games available, and while God of War Ragnarok steals its spot on our list of the best PC games, I still adore the start of the Norse saga.
As a brief reminder, the new duology follows Kratos and his son, Atreus, who accidentally start the events of Ragnarok in the 2018 game. After a few years of an everlasting winter, they’re pitted against Odin, the king of the gods and an overall not-very-nice dude.
While God of War Ragnarok’s narrative is its most impressive feature, the combat doesn’t take a backseat. Kratos’ armory of weapons makes for exciting combo-friendly gameplay as you slash, weave, and kill anything in your path from small mobs to the gods themselves, and learning to chain your attacks successfully makes it one of the best Viking games on PC.
If I’ve sold you on how spectacular God of War Ragnarok truly is, you can grab it at its lowest price during the Fanatical Winter sale. For just $41.99 / £34.99, you’re getting the full experience, which includes the exceptional post-launch Valhalla mode. While it veers from the action-adventure path by being more roguelite in nature, it’s also ridiculously important to Kratos’ story, so I strongly recommend playing that after the story concludes.
There’s currently no end date for this amazing discount, but most Winter sale deals are ending on Wednesday, December 25 2024, so we suggest picking up a copy before then. You can also grab Tales of Arise for under $10 from Fanatical, as well as Dragon’s Dogma 2 at its lowest price.
So, if you’re looking to play one of the best RPGs from the last few years, I highly recommend grabbing God of War Ragnarok – in all honesty, it’s worth paying the full price too. Just make sure you meet the God of War Ragnarok system requirements first.
