- Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s PC version will release on January 23.
In an interview, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth game director Naoki Hamaguchi asked players interested in picking up the upcoming PC port to not create or install any inappropriate mods into the game. However, Hamaguchi said that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will continue to respect the creativity of modders and their users, despite the company offering no official in-game mod support at launch.
The news came just under a week after Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth‘s PC port was revealed during the 2024 edition of The Game Awards. The January 23 release of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on PC will happen just under a year after its initial launch on PS5 and will support features such as Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) and enhanced models and textures. Ergo, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has some steep PC specification requirements, with Nvidia’s RTX graphics card lineup being the bare minimum that the game will support, along with 16GB of RAM and at least 155 GB of available storage space on a solid-state drive (SSD).

Although Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will include PC-specific lighting features that Hamaguchi stated his preference for, he also asked players looking to play on PC to refrain from one activity. In an interview with Epic Games, Hamaguchi asked players not to share, create, or install any inappropriate or offensive mods in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. While Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will not have any official in-game support for mods at the time of writing, Hamaguchi said that he respects the creativity and dedication of the Final Fantasy modding community and that the company will welcome any contributions that the company would deem appropriate. It is not clear what actions Square Enix could take, if any, against any modders who do not heed the developers’ requests.

Like Hamaguchi after him, Yoshida left the door open for quality-of-life mods and features to be added to Final Fantasy 16 by interested fans.
Though no official mod support will be available, Square Enix affirmed its commitment to making sure Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth can run optimally on the Steam Deck. Only time will tell how the PC version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be received by fans.
