Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi briefly considered adding an episodic DLC expansion in the vein of Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s Yuffie-centric INTERmission. A PC port of this year’s Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was recently announced at The Game Awards 2024, set to arrive on Steam and Epic Games Store on January 23, 2025. In addition to letting more players dive into the action-packed saga of Cloud Strife and his allies, this PC port will include a handful of features like updated textures, enhanced lighting, and Nvidia DLSS support.
Some players have been left wondering if Square Enix will add any story DLC to Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth as it did for its immediate predecessor when it made the jump to the PlayStation 5 back in 2021. Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s Episode INTERmission was a side story that introduced the ninja-like Yuffie Kisaragi to the rebooted FF7 universe and ran parallel to the main plot. It also included elements from the old Compilation of Final Fantasy 7 continuity, such as Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy 7 villain Nero the Sable.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Director Reveals Reason He Recommends the PC Version
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s director reveals his reasoning for recommending the recently revealed PC version of the game coming next year.
As it turns out, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi once toyed with the idea of creating another episodic expansion. In a recent interview posted on the Epic Games Store blog, Hamaguchi revealed that he and his team briefly considered making a new story DLC for the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth PC port, but eventually decided against it due to both limited resources and a desire to focus on the planned third Final Fantasy Remake game. However, he didn’t rule out the possibility of such a DLC happening in the future, provided his team receives a strong enough request for one from fans.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Director Considered A Story DLC
Sure enough, Hamaguchi made it clear during his latest interview that developing the next Final Fantasy 7 Remake sequel is the “highest priority” for him and his staff. This next installment will presumably pick up where Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth left off and is expected to cover the remainder of the original Final Fantasy 7’s storyline. Earlier this year, Hamaguchi and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth producer Yoshinori Kitase suggested development of the next chapter is following the same timetable as FF7 Rebirth.
As the gaming world waits for the conclusion of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake saga, fans who didn’t get a chance to play the most recent installment on the PS5 will soon be able to catch up when Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launches on PC next month. While there isn’t any story DLC included in this new port, players will be able to enjoy a laundry list of new features and technical improvements to what was already a blockbuster experience in its original release.
