Acer leaks Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 VRAM ahead of CES 2025 launch

Acer may have just inadvertently revealed the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 VRAM specs, along with the memory allocation of the RTX 5080, ahead of the launch of these GPUs at CES 2025. These crucial specs were discovered listed on the launch data sheets for two new Acer Predator Orion 7000 gaming PCs that are also set to be launched at the world’s largest tech trade show next month.

Based on their leaked spec sheets, both Orion PCs could easily top lists of the best gaming PCs, as it appears Acer is packing each rig with killer hardware. On top of the RTX 50-series GPUs, Acer is also equipping them with an Intel Core Ultra 7 265KF, for series multi-core CPU power.

This is the first time any real confirmation has come from an Nvidia partner about the VRAM situation in both the RTX 5080 and 5090. While Zotac did confirm their existence in a previous RTX 5000 series leak, only rumors have provided the information so far.

The new PCs were found on Acer’s website by VideoCardz, and have shown just how big of a gap there is between Nvidia’s next-generation flagship and any other GPU. Most consumer graphics cards are currently using between 8GB and 16GB of VRAM, but the RTX 5090 looks set to pack 32GB.

Notably, an allocation of 8GB of VRAM or less has come under fire recently as being antiquated or too little for modern games. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle suffers if you’re on a card with less than 12GB, for instance. Nvidia is insistent that 8GB is enough, with the likes of its RTX 4060 only equipped with that much, but there have been multiple instances of it holding back performance. That’s a key reason why it has been so significant that Intel has recently swooped in with the just-launched Arc B580 GPU that’s equipped with 12GB VRAM while costing just $249.99.

Right now, the only graphics cards on the market that house any more than 32GB of VRAM are specialized or workstation cards. Nvidia’s A-series has cards have 48GB or more, but these aren’t designed for gaming. Instead they’re aimed at use in training AI models or doing heavy lifting in tasks like rendering or 3D modeling.

For a GPU to launch for consumers at 32GB of VRAM is a significant jump from the RTX 4090, which has 24GB. What’s more, the VRAM of most of the RTX 5000 series is expected to be GDDR7, which should be significantly faster than the previous generation’s GDDR6X.

The RTX 5080, however, hasn’t received that big of a jump in spec. It’ll share the same VRAM capacity as the 4080, which is a figure it’s also rumored to share it with both the 5060 Ti and 5070 Ti models as well. It’ll come down to the raw power of the GPU’s actual chip over the additional specs this time around.

Nvidia is expected to announce all of its RTX 50-series GPUs at CES 2025, where CEO Jensen Huang will host the company’s keynote. There’s a lot to look forward to on the gaming front, like a refresh of some of the best gaming laptops available, as well as AMD and Intel, showing off their latest fare.
