Summary
- Transformers One goes beyond catering to younger fans by delving into deep lore about the Autobots, Decepticons, and Cybertron.
- The next Transformers movie may focus on the war with the Quintessons, potentially setting canon for the cinematic universe.
- The storyline could explore Optimus Prime leading an assault against the Quintessons on Cybertron, revealing more about the characters’ past.
Now that Transformers One is widely available, more and more people are realizing that while the movie has a sort of children’s movie feel on its face because of the animation style, the film goes quite a bit deeper than just trying to cater to its youngest fans. There’s quite a bit Transformers lore that is touched on in a relatively short period of time when you’re talking about it being accomplished in one movie.
Transformers One not only set up quite a bit of lore (some known and some brand new) but also made it very clear that an animated movie can still very much work in this universe. And it also demonstrated that there is quite a bit of interest in the movie going public to see more of the what the Autobots and Decepticons were, why they were fighting and what life was like before Cybertron eventually became a planet that could barely sustain the two warring factions. Transformers One actually provided the perfect jumping off point for Transformers Two or whatever the sequel might be called.

Transformers One to Transformers Two?
There isn’t anything known about the next animated Transformers movie just yet, though it does appear that one is eventually planned, even if it has to wait until the next live-action film comes out first. The live action flick already has at least some of its story laid out. It will feature a teammmup or a clash between the giant alien robots and the specialized military group, G.I. Joe. That crossover event was teased at the end of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and already confirmed as in the works. For a couple of installments.

Whatever form Transformers Two takes, it should delve more into the lore of the Autobots and Decepticons long before they ever thought about coming to earth. And one way in which it could still be set well in the past, but offer up a new story that isn’t simply an origin story is to feature a film that focusses on the war between the Cyrbertronians and the Quintessons. This would offer up an enemy that could really serve as a danger to the characters that fans know and love and would allow the fight to not be the more traditional class between Megatron and Optimus, but perhaps even an uneasy alliance to fight the alien race. Because of the friendship shown in Transformers One, that alliance would be more believable than it would be in the live-action films.
Who Are The Quintessons?
Part of the fun with a story that involves a war with the Quinessons, is that this next Transformers movie could essentially set canon for the movie cinematic universe. The alien race doesn’t play much of a part in the animated series from the 1980s, though they do appear in the first Transformers movie as a sort of edge of the universe outcast race that takes joy in capturing those unlucky enough to find their planet and tormenting them. However in various runs of the Transformers comic books they are often referred to as one of the main antagonists of the Cybertonians. There are even some storylines where they are actually the creators of the Transformers.
In Transformers One, there isn’t a great deal known about the race, other than it essentially conquered Cyberton without most of its citizens knowing it did so. At the end of the movie, just how Optimus Prime and the rest of the Autobots, or the Decepticons for that matter are going to rid themselves of the Quintessons for good is left up in the air.
Filling Out Transformers Lore
This would certainly offer up quite a bit of content for a Transformers Two as it could show Cybertron’s new leader, Optimus Prime leading the assault in an effort to get rid of the alien enemies once and for all. Or at least make them stop using Cybertron as their own personal food supply.
What is known about the original war of the Quintessons and the Cybertronians is that the Primes went to fight a final battle, but Sentinel Prime stabbed them in the back and turned into a kind of double agent. Now that he’s gone, it’s a safe bet the Quintessons, who certainly appeared to be a formidable force will return and exact their revenge on whoever dares to stop giving them Energon.
It’s not clear what the end goal of doing animated and live-action movies alongside one another but it would seem as though the animated versions would cover all the stuff that happened before they came to earth. The sequel to Transformers One and even a movie after Transformers Two could show just how costly and deadly the battle with the Quintessons is to the peace on Cybertron.
