On Your Tail has a lot of charm to immerse their players in a serene coastal town that draws from Italian inspiration. Players will have a main questline to follow, but can break from it to enjoy all manner of side activities at any point in the game.
Players will discover a diverse roster of NPCs, and find many whom they will enjoy spending time with. Not all of these NPCs will get a name, or even a face, right away.

Wrap up warm and relax with one of the following cozy sandbox games that are sure to put your mind at ease.
How to Solve Mysteries
One of the biggest selling points of the game is the mystery-solving elements. The game will have players collecting clues by interacting with NPCs and using their Chronolens to find inconsistencies. Players will need to select one clue at a time in the correct order for the mystery to be solved. This can be made easier by following some key elements during mysteries.
- Look at the order of checkboxes for what needs to happen.
- Read all the clues, as this can hint at certain checkboxes.
- Look at the mystery setting for special elements.
- Experiment to reveal new pieces of information.
- There is a finite number of choices.
When to Use a Supercharge
Players will be able to supercharge their Chronolens at will using a Joker card. Innovative puzzle-solving mechanics can make a game feel special and unique. The more mysteries you solve, the more Joker cards you can obtain. This will cause the Chronolens hands to spin faster as you close in on a clue.
Open and close the Chronolens from a corner to survey a wide area for potential clues.
How to Use the Map
The map may not be that large, but some players might find it to still be a bit labyrinthine. This is because it has many isolated areas that are all connected by twists and turns that can have players arriving at a dead end. On Your Tail does not feature a compass or guiding system to help out. This means players will need to manually open their map each time to find where they are. Players should also always check their notebook using R1/RB or the Tab key to know what their objective is.
Luckily, there is a trick that can help players always know which direction they are facing. While solving the Theft at Villa De Montoni mystery, players will leave the manor and discover the coastline of Borgo Marina. Players can run along this coastline, following the paths to a warehouse. Knowing this direction acts as a form of compass. Players will see their position on the map when they pull it up. This means players can open/close the map as they move through each section to prevent getting spun around. This can be done by pressing up on the D-pad, or pressing 1 on the keyboard.
There are various beaches in the game, and each leads upward to different areas. Players can compartmentalize the game map using this coastline to help them navigate. The game will place Leads on the map for all the player’s objectives, so check the map often.
Enjoy the Little Things
The game is filled with wonders and fun little activities — even among some of their earlier mysteries players will encounter. Using the sprint might help players get from one end of the map to the other, but stopping to pan the camera lets players take in the beauty of the game. There are many points of interest to find around corners and prompts to interact with when players just want to sit down and chat with a friendly NPC.
These points of interest can come up in the story later, but there is nothing stopping players from checking them out when they notice them for the first time. On Your Tail is a game where players do not need to stress or try to do everything as fast as they can. So just take your time and enjoy the game. Plates will constantly be betting new cards for the game’s NPCs, locations, and more. They can check these at any time by pressing E on the keyboard or using the triangle/Y button on the controller.
