Summary

  • Gojo died in a shocking battle against Sukuna in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc.
  • Post Gojo’s death, Yuta, Yuji, and Higuruma emerge as potential contenders for the next strongest in JJK.
  • Yuji needs to enhance his cursed techniques to match Gojo’s strength in future battles.

Gojo Satoru, the face of JJK, was quite easily one of the most powerful characters in the story. Fans were introduced to Gojo right at the very beginning and he was openly declared to be the strongest. Gojo’s words were taken quite seriously by the fans after his display against Jogo was displayed, and he was overwhelmingly dominant. His skill was absolutely impeccable and there is absolutely no denying the fact that he was a generational genius the likes of which could only be seen once a thousand years or so.

That said, Gojo’s time has come to an end officially after he fought against Sukuna in a heroic battle, and ended up losing his life. Now, a power vacuum has been created in the JJK world, and someone else has to rise. Thankfully, the author has teased some characters to take on his role in the future and it remains to be seen who will take this responsibility properly.

Gojo’s Death In JJK Was Shocking To All Fans

  • Gojo and Sukuna Finally Collided In The Shinjuku Showdown Arc
  • Gojo Met His End In This Battle

Gojo ended up dying in the battle against Sukuna after an enthralling battle. As fans know, Gojo was sealed using the Prison Realm during the Shibuya Incident Arc of the series. From there onwards, the cast came to free Gojo, and in the Culling Game Arc, this finally took place. Due to the incredible effort of the sorcerers, Gojo was freed in the end, and he returned in quite some style. Immediately upon his return, a battle with Sukuna was set up, and by this time, the latter had taken control of Megumi’s body. Gojo vs Sukuna happened a month later, and this battle was truly the pinnacle of the entire series. While these sorcerers were equally mashed, Gojo was far more impressive in the battle, and this stems from the fact that he was actually fighting not just against Sukuna’s Shrine but with Megumi’s 10 Shadows as well. In fact, both of these techniques are strong enough to match Gojo and his Limitless individually, as confirmed by him.

Farewell, Gojo Satoru! I shall never forget you for as long as you live. – Sukuna

When Sukuna combined the incredible power of his Shrine with the 10 Shadows Technique, naturally, Gojo would be pushed on the back foot. But, despite that, Gojo actually did incredibly well in this fight, and pushed Sukuna against the wall, coming incredibly close to actually killing him. In fact, the only reason why Sukuna did not die in the battle against Gojo after the powerful remote Hollow Purple was because the author wanted him to live and continue fighting against other sorcerers.

Gojo 0

Gojo was a plot device in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc and he could never have beaten Sukuna, because otherwise, the story would mean absolutely nothing for the likes of Yuji Itadori. Yuji is the protagonist and he had to defeat the King of Curses by himself. That is precisely why Gojo ended up dying, and Sukuna ended up the victor. In JJK chapter 236, Sukuna used the World Splitting Dismantle and chopped Gojo in half, effectively ending his life.

Why A Few Individuals Can Become The Next Gojo

Yuji, Yuta, And Others Have The Potential To Be The Next Gojo

With the death of Gojo, a power vacuum was created in the world of JJK. After all, Gojo was the strongest modern sorcerer the likes of which couldn’t be matched by the rest of the JJK sorcerers put together. Naturally, Gojo’s Death left a huge hole for the sorcerers to fill, and, even now, there isn’t an outright answer as to who the next Gojo is. The answer to the question is quite complicated. The fact is that there is no character as strong as Gojo right now who can take on this position effectively. But, there are certainly individuals with a lot of potential who can go on to fulfill this role in the future of the series. In fact, there are actually quite a few who can go on to do it.

Seek a different kind of strength than mine. – Gojo

The first character who fans know can fulfill this responsibility by becoming the strongest is none other than Yuta Okkotsu. Yuta already took over Gojo’s body during the Shinjuku Showdown Arc, and it was certainly spectacle for the fans to see. Although it didn’t end up serving the plot much and didn’t do anything that the author couldn’t tackle in any other way, it was still exciting for the fans to see. Yuta possesses tremendous strength and his connection to Gojo, along with the fact that they shared the same ancestors, certainly does add a level of realism to the idea that he can go on to become the next Gojo. Yuta understands the burden that Gojo carried better than anyone else and he’s ready to sacrifice himself similarly so that he can go on to become the strongest as well. He has the tools to do so, and he only needs to refine his techniques in the future to claim this position.

Gege reveals who is at the pinnacle of physical strength in JJK. Here’s who that is.

Similarly, Yuji has the potential to become the next Gojo as well. Fans no Yuji to have enough potential to match the likes of Sukuna. But, Yuji is still an unfinished product. He still needs to strengthen himself dramatically if he is to ever match the strongest modern sorcerer in battle, and that Is the truth of it. Even though Yuji beat Sukuna in the Shinjuku Showdown arc, he was not strong enough to do it by himself, and even his control over his techniques was rather weak. Yuji needs to dramatically level up his cursed techniques such as Shrine, and at the same time, gain a better grasp of powers such as Blood Manipulation. He needs to improve his usage of reverse cursed technique and learn more barrier techniques, and anti-domain techniques such as domain amplification, as well as other forms of this power.

Above all, Yuji needs to widen his arsenal incredibly, and more than anything, he needs to increase his efficiency in all these arts. Yuji has the potential to match Sukuna one day, but he certainly needs a lot more time to actually go on to do that.

Another individual whom Gege has openly claimed to be a talent on the same level as Gojo is none other than Hiromi Higuruma. He is a newly awakened sorcerer who has reached unprecedented heights in the Shinjuku Showdown arc. Higuruma is a true genius, and has been compared to Gojo on many occasions. In fact, even Sukuna ended up paying respect to him before cutting him down, and that just goes to show the level he was truly on. In 2 months, Higuruma achieved what sorcerers failed to achieve in their entire lives, and that is the truth of it. More recently, Gege commented on how he wanted Higuruma to be considered by people as a true genius and he certainly gave off that feeling when he learned techniques such as domain amplification, reverse cursed technique, domain expansion, and many other advanced abilities, such as walking in mid-air in span of 2 months. Higuruma is still alive and is striving to become stronger than ever before and could potentially go on to become the next Gojo.

Clearly, there are many candidates for the position of next strongest in JJK and Yuta, at the moment, seems to be the likeliest answer, given that he is much more experienced and stronger than the others. But, potential-wise, the likes of Higuruma and Yuji might overshadow him eventually.
