Summary
- Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet’s trailer seemingly features some clues that may hint at a 2027 release for the sci-fi game.
- Naughty Dog fans have found potential teases to 2027 at two different points in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet’s trailer.
- However, Naughty Dog said last year that it wants to announce games closer to release, so a three-year gap between Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet’s reveal and launch seems a bit contradictory.
Some Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet fans believe they’ve deciphered the highly anticipated sci-fi game’s release window based on some potential hints in its announcement trailer. Developer Naughty Dog pulled back the curtain on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet at The Game Awards 2024, but curiously didn’t provide any details on the game’s planned launch window.
As the first new IP from Naughty Dog in over a decade, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is unlike any of the award-winning studio’s prior games. Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet draws inspiration from Akira and Cowboy Bebop for its intriguing alt-universe 1980s sci-fi setting. The game’s four-and-a-half-minute announcement trailer reveals that its protagonist is bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun, who has to escape from a mysterious and perilous planet dubbed “Sempiria.” Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet‘s trailer is also packed with tiny details and Easter eggs, and some believe that the game’s launch window is in there as well.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is Naughty Dog’s newest sci-fi franchise featuring a bounty hunter modeled after and played by Tati Gabrielle.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet fans recently found a clever reference to The Last of Us games while combing through every frame of the trailer, and now they’ve uncovered two potential hints to a 2027 release window for Naughty Dog’s upcoming sci-fi game. The first hint appears at the 2:48 mark of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet‘s trailer, where a screen displays bounty details for Colin Graves (played by actor Kumail Nanjiani). Beneath Graves’ image is a string of numbers starting with “3127,” which can be interpreted as shorthand for March 1, 2027, a possible release date for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Fans Find Potential 2027 Release Window Hints in Announcement Trailer
The second hint comes at the 3:19 mark, where Jordan punches “7202” into the music player’s keypad, which just happens to be “2027” reversed. While the evidence is admittedly not the most robust, it wouldn’t be too unfathomable if Naughty Dog did intentionally add those references in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet‘s reveal trailer to tease a 2027 launch. The prospect of a 2025 launch for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet already seems highly improbable, so it’s likely down to either 2026 or 2027 for the game’s planned release window.
However, announcing Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet roughly three years before launch would contradict some comments Naughty Dog president Neil Druckmann made last year about revealing games too early. Druckmann regretted revealing Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and The Last of Us Part 2 several years before Naughty Dog could release them, and said that the studio will no longer announce games that far in advance to manage fan anticipation and avoid undue pressure on developers. With this context in view, it seems unlikely that Naughty Dog would repeat old mistakes with Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, but only time will tell what the long-awaited sci-fi title’s release plans look like.
Intergalactic: The Heretic Propher follows Jordan A. Mun, a dangerous bounty hunter who ends up stranded on Sempiria – a distant planet whose communication with the outside universe went dark hundreds of years ago. In fact, anyone who’s flown to it hoping to unravel its mysterious past was never heard from again. Jordan will have to use all her skills and wits if she hopes to be the first person in over 600 years to leave its orbit.
