MVP (Most Valuable Player) is a widely-known term across many games that indicates the best overall player in a match. In Marvel Rivals, an MVP is awarded to a player on the winning team at the end of every match, but there is also an SVP tag. Since this title is lesser-known, many players are wondering what it means.
The game never fully explains why players get awarded the title, so if you’ve been the SVP of matches or are simply wondering what it means, here is everything you need to know about the mysterious tag.

What Does SVP Mean in Marvel Rivals?
SVP stands for ‘Second Valuable Player’, and it’s awarded to the best-performing player on the losing team in Marvel Rivals. The player who receives it likely got the most kills as Duelist or did the most healing as Strategist and the game acknowledges that player would likely have got the MVP title if the team had won the game.
While the title is merely an acknowledgment in Quick Play matches, getting SVP in Competitive means you won’t lose points despite losing. This means that the penalty for losing is less detrimental to the player’s overall Competitive standing, and it acts as a buffer for the randomness that comes with matchmaking – especially if you are a solo queue player.
You can track how well you’re doing during the game by looking at the scoreboard. Not only will you see the kills and assists other players got and your own damage and/or healing stats, but you’ll also see an ‘Ace’ tag that’s given to players. This small tag can switch between players during the match, and it’s an indication of who will be getting MVP or SVP at the end of it.
How to Get MVP in Marvel Rivals
Getting the MVP or SVP title in Marvel Rivals doesn’t have a set of rules, but it largely depends on how well you’re performing in the role you’re playing. For example, getting multiple kill streaks as a Duelist or outhealing everyone in the game as a Strategist could award you with the title. Here are some ways in which you could get MVP or SVP:
- Vanguard: Blocking the most damage, doing the most damage, or getting a large kill streak.
- Duelist: Getting the most kills or dealing the most damage.
- Strategist: Doing the most healing in the game or getting a large kill streak.
You can also get MVP by making a massive play, like getting 4-5 kills with Scarlet Witch’s Ultimate or throwing a bunch of people off the map with Jeff the Land Shark. Even if you don’t end up winning, this play is still considered clutch by the game and you will be awarded with the SVP title.
The most important thing when playing matches, however, is to play with your team and work together to try and win the match. It’s more likely that you’ll get MVP or SVP if you play to your strengths around your teammates because, at the end of the day, Marvel Rivals is a team-based game that rewards team-focused play.
