The History Of Shonen Jump Plus
Before releasing Shonen Jump Plus, Shueisha released another website called Jump LIVE. The app was extremely popular and received over one million downloads. However, Shueisha decided to pull the plug on it as they believed it was cluttered. There were too many titles on it, making it hard to distinguish between free and paid content.
Finally, Shueisha released Shonen Jump Plus in September 2014. The app did not have as many restrictions, which is why it became more popular than Jump LIVE in a shorter period of time. Shueisha was able to release content that included violence and gore without having to censor it. In 2017, Weekly Shonen Jump started serializing manga that were previously published on Shonen Jump+.
How Shonen Jump Plus Went Global
Manga Plus, the global version of Shonen Jump Plus, was released in January 2019. The idea was proposed in 2017, but it didn’t materialize until a couple of years later. The higher-ups at Shueisha believed that the app would help bring in a bigger audience, which would greatly benefit the various titles serializing on the app.
In little to no time, Manga Plus has become a hit around the globe. Some of the most popular titles that are available to read on Manga Plus are:
- Kaiju No. 8
- Spy x Family
- One Piece
- Chainsaw Man
- Hell’s Paradise
Aside from these manga, there are a ton of other titles that fans can enjoy free of charge.
As Shonen Jump Plus and Manga Plus gain more popularity, Shueisha will look to invest more in the apps. This will help improve the UI and the number of titles on the apps. At the moment, both apps are doing fine on both the Google and Apple stores and have accumulated millions of downloads.
Shonen Jump Plus and Manga Plus are available to download.
