If you’ve been playing Marvel Rivals over the last couple of weeks, you’ll no doubt have experienced (or inflicted) some shark-based trauma. Jeff the Land Shark may be cute, but he’s proving to be a menace on the battlefield. Well, here’s some news that will either make Christmas come early or turn you into a proper scrooge – Marvel Rivals has just revealed a festive in-game event with a brand new game mode that turns everyone into Jeff.
That’s right, in just a few days Marvel Rivals’ Winter Celebration event will begin, and the brand new mode, Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival, will be added to the multiplayer game. The adorable landshark has quickly become a popular pick, partly because he’s so darn cute, but mostly because he’s really fun to use and very high up our Marvel Rivals tier list. You’ve probably been gulped up and spat out by a Jeff player plenty of times, or at the very least seen all those hilarious viral clips.
In Jeff’s Winter Splash Festival, everyone gets to be Jeff. Judging from the event’s trailer, this mode clearly takes inspiration from Splatoon. It appears that two teams of Jeffs will battle it out to cover the map in their team’s snow, just like you do with paint in Nintendo’s third-person shooter. A bar at the top of the screen seems to show what percentage of the map each team has covered, and you’ll still be able to eliminate enemy players to make your snow spraying easier.
Jeff is also getting a wintery new skin, and NetEase says that “a special winter greeting card with gifts from Jeff is also waiting for you.” The new Jeff skin will be free for anyone that logs in and participates in the event.
Speaking of skins, the event trailer also showcases four festive appearances for Venom, Groot, Rocket, and Magik. These appear to be premium additions to the store, but if you’re maining either one of these characters, they’ll no doubt be of interest. That icy Venom one, in particular, looks pretty epic.
Marvel Rivals’ Winter Celebration event begins on Thursday, December 19 at 11 PM PST/ Friday, December 20 at 2am EST/ 7am GMT/ 8am CET.
