Marvel Rivals Reveals 5 Winter Celebration Event Skins

Summary

  • Marvel Rivals Winter Celebration event includes new 4v4 game mode.
  • Event offers free Jeff the Land Shark skin.
  • The event features premium skins for Venom, Groot, Rocket Raccoon, and Magik.

Marvel Rivals has announced its first post-launch special event. Hero shooter Marvel Rivals has proven to be incredibly popular since launch, drawing in millions of players excited by its Overwatch meets Marvel concept. The launch version of Marvel Rivals has 33 playable characters, eight maps, and four game modes for players to enjoy, but like with any live service game, more is on the way.

Marvel Rivals leaks have revealed some of the new characters that are in development for the roster, with some currently-missing heavy hitters seemingly on the way. If the leaks are accurate, Marvel Rivals fans can look forward to new playable heroes like The Thing, Blade, and even Ultron. What didn’t leak in advance, though, is the plan for the Marvel Rivals winter event, set to kick off on Friday, December 20 at 00:00 UTC.

The Marvel Rivals Winter Celebration event on December 20 will feature a brand-new limited-time 4v4 game mode called Jeff’s Winter Splash, themed after breakout strategist character Jeff the Land Shark. It will also include a special Gallery Card customization event. Players will be challenged to complete special tasks to unlock the Jeff the Land Shark: Cuddly Fuzzlefin costume, nameplate, spray, and “other rewards.” An end date for the event has not been announced, but we do know that it will include premium skins for players to buy in the shop as well.

Marvel Rivals Winter Celebration Event Skins

The Marvel Rivals Winter Celebration event premium skins include an icy, perhaps Krampus-themed skin for Vanguard hero Venom, an adorable Christmas tree skin for Groot, and skiing skins for Magik and Rocket Raccoon, with the latter even having a Santa hat. Pricing information is unavailable at the time of this writing, but the skins all look great, setting the bar high for future Marvel Rivals holiday events.

While the skins are impressive, the Marvel Rivals Winter Celebration event seems relatively low-key compared to the competition. Details on Overwatch 2‘s Winter Wonderland 2024 event have yet to be revealed, past versions of the mode have let fans know what to expect. It’s highly likely that there will be multiple new holiday-themed skins in the shop, plus multiple specially-themed, limited-time game modes to try as well. Not only that, but Overwatch 2 fans can expect some of the game’s maps to get snowy makeovers while the Winter Wonderland event is live in the game. Of course, Marvel Rivals is a brand-new game, so it’s not really fair to compare the two events, and it’s likely that future events for the Marvel-themed hero shooter will be more substantial.
