Lego Leak Hints At Upcoming $1,000 Star Wars Death Star Set

Lego Leak Hints At Upcoming $1,000 Star Wars Death Star Set

Summary

  • Lego is rumored to be working on a new Death Star set ready for a release in October 2025.
  • The leak claims the set will retail for $999.99.
  • If accurate, the new Death Star will be the most expensive Lego set ever.

Lego has been creating sets for all different ages, abilities, and bank accounts for decades with options from $10 to hundreds of dollars to choose from. However, if the latest rumors about its plans for 2025 are true, by this time next year it will have released its most expensive Lego set to date, a $1,000 replica of the Death Star.

Falconbricks shared details over the weekend that Lego appears to be planning a new USC Death Star 2 set and that it will likely be released on October 1, 2025. Other than a potential release date, the only other concrete detail from the leak is that the set is expected to cost a whopping $999.99.

Even the Marvel logo is Lego now, and it has tiny Avengers living inside it.

If that price ends up being accurate, then I believe it will be the most expensive Lego set ever. Lego has come close to hitting the $1,000 threshold and the two sets in joint first as it stands are both from its Star Wars collection. The Millennium Falcon and AT-AT sets cost $849.99 each and the former is currently available to backorder at Lego. The AT-AT set is unfortunately out of stock.

Since the price and release date are all we know for now, it’s unclear exactly how many pieces this presumably pretty massive Lego set is going to cost. However, we can have an educated guess based on the piece count of the $850 sets mentioned above. The AT-AT is 6,785 pieces, while the Millennium Falcon clocks in at 7,541. You’d think for an additional $150, Lego’s new Death Star is going to be made up of 8,000 pieces, at least.

With so much stuff from a galaxy far, far away turned into Lego already, you’d have also thought the Death Star would have been a Lego set before now, and well, it has. Lego originally released a Death Star 2 set in 2005. It was just shy of 3,500 pieces and cost $300. It’s possible the new Death Star could be framed as a 20th-anniversary set, and I’m assuming it will be far more elaborate than its predecessor.

Lego has packed 2024 with new Star Wars sets since this year marks 25 years since the release of its first-ever team-up with the franchise. With a $500 Lego replica of Jabba’s sail barge part of its many releases across the last 12 months, if there is a $1,000 Death Star coming, it makes a lot of sense to give it some breathing room and save it until October.
