Although the main character, Beatrix, may appear to be quite lonely in Slime Rancher, it’s safe to say she’s not entirely alone. You can receive letters from other ranchers or trade with them through the Range Exchange. These trades can sometimes provide you with useful items, such as food or plorts that you might not currently have access to.

Slime Rancher: Tarr Slimes, Explained
Heres’s how the Tarr appear in Slime Rancher and what you can do to get rid of these pests.
Among the individuals you can trade with is Viktor. Viktor is a scientist who has created a simulation called The Slimeulation, a virtual copy of the Far, Far Range. Within this simulation, you’ll encounter a very unique type of slime.
How To Unlock Viktor’s Workshop
Viktor Humphries is one of the characters you can interact with through the Range Exchange system. By talking to certain characters via Range Exchange, you can visit their ranches, and Viktor’s is one of them. There is a teleporter to Viktor’s Workshop in the Lab, but it is not functional at the beginning. To activate the teleporter, you must meet several prerequisites.
Purchase The Lab
Since the teleporter to Viktor’s Workshop is in the Lab, the first step is to purchase the Lab. The Lab is located to the south of your ranch. To buy it, you will need a total of 10,000 Newbucks.
After purchasing the Lab, you will find the teleporter to Viktor’s Workshop inside the Lab, on the left side of the central Refinery. However, this teleporter will not work until you complete the other requirements.
Purchase The Treasure Cracker MK II
Once you have bought the Lab, its main components work as follows:
- You buy blueprints from the machine on the left,
- Launch plorts into the middle machine
- Craft gadgets using the plorts in the machine on the right.
Before you can buy the Treasure Cracker MK II, you must first purchase its predecessor, the Treasure Cracker MK I. You can buy it from the upgrade station in front of your ranch. However, to buy the Treasure Cracker MK I, you will need to craft a gadget in the Lab.
Afterward, to buy the Treasure Cracker MK II, you need to craft a total of 20 gadgets. Once you meet these conditions, you can purchase it for 9,000 Newbucks.
Open The Ancient Ruins Slime Gate
Another requirement to access Viktor’s Workshop is unlocking the slime gate to the Ancient Ruins. You can reach the Ancient Ruins in two ways: from Indigo Quarry or Moss Blanket. Either way, you will need a Slime Key, which can be obtained by popping specific Gordo slimes.
Route |
Description |
---|---|
Indigo Quarry Route |
If you are using the Indigo Quarry route to reach the Ancient Ruins, stand to the north of the large, dark cave in the center of the area. (Alternatively, you can reach this area from the northwest near the puddle slimes’ lake instead of starting from the cave.) At the top, there will be a tunnel with torches. Climb onto one of the pillars on the side and fly towards the entrance of the tunnel. Pass through the tunnel and exit. On the other side, you will find a cylindrical structure resembling ribs—pass through it. After going under a rock arch, turn left and proceed along the ledge. After descending a slope, continue along the ledge, cross a wooden bridge, and enter the tunnel by the fruit tree. Use the key at the door, and you will reach the Ancient Ruins Transition area. |
Moss Blanket Route |
If you’re using the Moss Blanket route, your journey is easier. After reaching Moss Blanket from Dry Reef, climb the stairs and drop down through the hole. Then, head east, cross the wooden bridge, and go up the slope. You will find a Slime Gate; open it with the Slime Key to reach the Ancient Ruins Transition area. |
However, reaching the Ancient Ruins Transition area is not enough. You will need to open the door to the Ancient Ruins itself. To do so, you must shoot plorts from six different slimes (Tabby, Rock, Phosphor, Honey, Boom, and Rad) into their respective Plort Statues.
Trade With Viktor Humphries
If you have met all the other requirements, the final step is to trade with Viktor once. To trade via Range Exchange, you will see a machine that allows you to exchange on the right side of the main northern exit gate of your ranch. After making a trade with it, you will receive a Starmail. Once you read the Starmail, you will be able to use the teleporter in the Lab.
How To Use Viktor’s Workshop
After teleporting to Viktor’s Workshop via the Lab’s teleporter, you will be able to visit it as much as you want. The first thing you need to do is use the Range Exchange machine to talk to Viktor. He will ask you to help test a simulation world in Far, Far Range, known as the ‘Slimeulation.’
After finishing your conversation with Viktor, enter the teleporter in the area and press the button. This will take you to Slimeulation. In Slimeulation, your goal is to find Glitch Slimes. These slimes can take the form of other slimes and objects. If they take on the form of other slimes, their faces will look different, which you could call a ‘Ditto face.’
When you suck up these altered slimes, Glitch Slimes will appear, and you need to vacuum them up. If you don’t capture them within a certain time, they will disappear. Here’s how many Glitch Slimes are contained in different types of slimes:
Slime Type |
Glitch Slime Count |
---|---|
Pure Slime |
Contains 1 Glitch Slime |
Largo Slime |
Contains 3-5 Glitch Slime |
Lucky Slime |
Contains 7-8 Glitch Slime |
Gold Slime |
Contains 7-8 Glitch Slime |
In addition, you will come across green glowing objects in Slimeulation. These are Debug Sprays, which are stored in your water tank inventory. You need to use Debug Spray on abnormal objects that should not be there. Glitch Slimes can take on the form of these objects but do not fully match them, so you need to reveal them.
For example, if you see a shaking rock, it is fake and contains Glitch Slimes. Similarly, if a fruit tree has an abnormal fruit or the fruit is ripe when it shouldn’t be, it indicates that Glitch Slimes are present. These objects contain a total of 12 Glitch Slimes.
After spending enough time in Slimeulation, corrupted rifts will appear, and the game will notify you that the exit portal is active. Corrupted rifts will spawn Tarrs unique to Slimeulation. These Tarrs can be eliminated with Debug Spray, but they will continue to spawn from the rifts. When they despawn, they may split into two, but otherwise, they behave like normal Tarrs.
If Slimeulation Tarrs bite you, they will cause three or four Glitch Slimes to escape from your vacpack. If you do not exit Slimeulation after the exit portal appears, more rifts will spawn.
When the exit portal is active, follow the yellow arrows to find the Beacon. Using it will teleport you back to Viktor’s Workshop. If you die in Slimeulation, you won’t faint and wait until the next day. Instead, you will be teleported back to Viktor’s Workshop.
Once you exit Slimeulation and return to Viktor’s Workshop, the Glitch Slimes you collected will be turned into Bug Reports. You can submit these Bug Reports into the Range Exchange machine in Viktor’s Workshop to earn various rewards:
Reward |

Advanced Drone |

You can obtain the Advanced Drone blueprint and build this gadget. It functions similarly to a regular drone but can perform two tasks simultaneously instead of just one. |
Viktor’s Workshop |

At this stage, you can access the previously unreachable area of Viktor’s Workshop, which was blocked by a red barrier. |
