Fans exploring the many maps of Marvel Rivals have spotted a sight in one of them that could’ve been pulled right from the iconic Halo franchise. The seemingly Halo-inspired scenery is found on a Marvel Rivals map set in the Wakanda.

Though the Marvel Cinematic Universe is by far the most popular and widely known expression of Marvel’s worlds and aesthetic these days, Marvel Rivals cleverly draws from a variety of inspirations to populate its multiversal setting. Among these is its version of Wakanda, which is a far cry from the hidden, isolated city state shown in popular films like Avengers: Infinity War and the ongoing Black Panther film series. Indeed, rather than being set in Africa, or even on Earth, the current Wakandan maps in Marvel Rivals are based on the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda, a space-based supernation that, at the moment, is largely exclusive to the Marvel Comics Black Panther storylines.

Halo Fan Spots Ring World Structure in Marvel Rivals Map

It’s no surprise that Halo fans might think of the game series upon spotting a ring world. After all, the entire series is even named after the ancient Halo Ring megastructures that house many of the story’s most important moments. Even the imagery of seeing a massive continent-sized landmass stretching high above the horizon is a sight one might easily associate with the games.

Fellow Halo fans reacted with amusement, making jokes about how Iron Man might react to the Master Chief’s power armor. As some fans pointed out, though, Halo doesn’t have an exclusive lock on the ring world concept. Ring worlds and similar megastructures are relatively common in sci-fi stories. Even the sci-fi film Elysium features a ring world of sorts, though the titular orbital habitat is less a world and a more massive space station housing the Earth’s richest people.

In the end, Marvel Rivals just happened to draw on similar inspiration to portray the might of the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda. The ring world sight is also an easy visual shorthand to help set apart the cosmic nature of Marvel Rivals‘ Wakanda from the MCU-propagated vision of an African forest kingdom.
