Zenless Zone Zero has revealed its first new playable S-Rank character for the game’s Version 1.5 update, finally confirming the long-rumored Astra Yao to be coming to the game. Since the launch of the newest action RPG from HoYoverse, the developer has continued to expand its existing character factions and even introduce new groups. New Eridu Public Security brought plenty of characters like Zhu Yuan and Qingyi, while groups like the Sons of Calydon and Hollow Special Operations Section 6 have seen new members added. However, one rumored faction has been a particular point of excitement for many fans.

Since the launch of Zenless Zone Zero, the eventual addition of a music-themed faction has been the subject of plenty of rumors and leaks. Early teasers and concept art heavily suggested that the action RPG would eventually be adding characters themed around an in-universe musical group, often referred to as a “virtual idol” faction. Astra Yao, in particular, has been heavily rumored to become a playable character, referenced in-game through Inter-Knot posts and previously teased ahead of the game’s release. Now, Astra Yao is set to finally make her debut in Zenless Zone Zero.

Zenless Zone Zero‘s newest “Agent Record” post officially reveals Astra Yao as one of the next playable characters coming to the game. The post introduces Astra Yao as a member of Zenless Zone Zero‘s “Stars of Lyra” faction, teasing her as a highly-regarded musician within New Eridu whose concerts are seen as a grand event. The first hints of Astra Yao’s gameplay are also revealed through the post, with Astra Yao confirmed to be an Ether Support character. Astra Yao is expected to launch with the Version 1.5 update, currently believed to be releasing on January 21.


Zenless Zone Zero Reveals New Character Astra Yao


The long-awaited debut of Astra Yao is set to introduce the newest playable faction to Zenless Zone Zero, with more characters expected to follow. Previous Zenless Zone Zero factions have all typically included 4 playable characters, suggesting that the Stars of Lyra will likely be receiving even more roster members in the near future. Zenless Zone Zero‘s past releases have also hinted at more groups that may eventually be fleshed out, including Soldier 11’s “Obol Squad” and the previously mentioned “virtual idol” group.

Version 1.5’s first reveals come as HoYoverse is gearing up to roll out the highly-anticipated Version 1.4 update for Zenless Zone Zero. Version 1.4 will introduce two brand-new characters with Hoshimi Miyabi and Asaba Harumasa, alongside the newest expansion to the game’s main story. Zenless Zone Zero is also making several gameplay improvements with the update coming later this week, including a revamped version of “TV Mode” and a new expansion to the Hollow Zero game mode. Zenless Zone Zero fans are in for an exciting few months with major updates on the way.
