As the wait for a new Resident Evil game continues, hope for an official announcement from Capcom lingers. It’s been three years since the last chapter with Village, leaving many fans hungry for more. Resident Evil has become one of the most influential horror series in gaming, making the absence of a new game or update that much more noticeable.
The lack of official word from Capcom may be disappointing, but that doesn’t mean Resident Evil has been out of the spotlight. For months, rumors and leaks about Resident Evil 9 have been pouring out. From claims of Jill and Leon being the protagonists to potential answers about The Connections, the rumor mill has worked overtime in regard to Resident Evil. However, these many claims should be met with skepticism until Capcom confirms or denies them. Despite the many questions fans want answered, there is still great Resident Evil content scheduled for the new year.

George A. Romero’s Resident Evil
- The film will be released digitally on January 7, 2025.
George A. Romero’s Resident Evil is an upcoming documentary exploring the late director’s unrealized live-action adaptation of the franchise. Fans of the zombie genre, or horror in general, will instantly recognize Romero’s name. Responsible for some of film’s most classic zombie movies, like Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, Romero was once pegged as a possible director of the live-action Resident Evil adaptation.
Unfortunately, his vision for the film was rejected by Capcom, and Paul W.S. Anderson was officially hired to bring Resident Evil to the big screen. The documentary features interviews with people attached to the scrapped project and even showcases archival footage tied to the hopeful production. While this isn’t a game release, George A. Romero’s Resident Evil could be a fun way for diehard Resident Evil fans to learn more about the movie adaptation that never came to fruition.
