The Witcher 4 was recently revealed at The Game Awards with an epic cinematic trailer. Details were pretty sparse, but it did go as far as to confirm that fan-favorite character Ciri will be The Witcher 4‘s protagonist. While she has big boots to fill in the form of Geralt of Rivia, her role in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was lauded, and with Geralt’s story largely wrapped up in the last game, there’s no reason why Ciri can’t prove to be the perfect protagonist to carry The Witcher 4.

In a statement to TheGamer, CD Projekt RED confirmed that The Witcher 4‘s version of Ciri will be played by Ciara Berkely, stating that she is “a talented actress who impressed us with her enthusiasm and vocal acting skills, and in this trailer we believe she truly brought Ciri to life in a way that is both faithful to the character and exciting for fans of the series.” The studio also clarified to TheGamer that she would be playing the character in the full game, too, and not just the trailer as the statement kind of implies.
Ciri Has Been Recast in The Witcher 4
The reason for the recast is currently unclear. A potential time jump for The Witcher 4 could be one possible explanation, although the reveal trailer didn’t confirm anything in this regard. As for Berkeley, her body of work so far includes a three-episode role in the miniseries The Deceived, a leading role in the Irish indie film Swing Bout, and a turn as “Student 1” in Normal People. Fans wanting to check out her work before The Witcher 4 won’t need to invest too much time to do so, but the casting of an unknown makes it all the more exciting.
While it was exciting to see a new mainline Witcher game finally revealed, the recent cinematic trailer only raised even more questions for fans. One such question was whether Geralt would appear. CD Projekt RED wasted no time in answering that question before allowing speculation to run rampant. Yes, Geralt will appear in The Witcher 4, although to what degree remains to be seen.
