Game industry icon, Hideo Kojima, has apparently alluded to making an appearance in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. This implication is drawn from a cryptic Naughty Dog-related post shared by the veteran game director on his social media. Over the past decades, Kojima has produced multiple blockbuster hits—mainly in the Metal Gear franchise—for his former employer, Konami.

Announced recently at The Game Awards 2024, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is an action-adventure game currently in the works for the PS5. Importantly, it is the first new IP revealed by the highly decorated studio, Naughty Dog, since 2013’s The Last of Us. The American developer’s sci-fi game takes place in the ’80s in an alternative universe and lets the player take on the role of bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun, who must find a way out of an isolated planet known as Sempiria. While Intergalactic‘s first trailer focused mainly on the protagonist, played by Tati Gabrielle, eagle-eyed fans have already come up with other popular names who may be part of the cast. In an interesting development, Kojima has now hinted at a possible involvement in the Sony-owned studio’s project.

Every Real World Reference in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

The reveal of Naughty Dog’s upcoming new IP Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was bursting with retrofuturist real-world references.

On Twitter, Kojima shared a video that understandably shows him taking a 360-degree camera scan. While the video itself has been recorded by a device rotating around the veteran, there is also a clear noise of multiple cameras going off in the video’s background. Most interestingly, the post is captioned as “#Intergalactic” by the Kojima Productions head, leading fans to think this is a nod to him making a cameo in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. It’s also worth noting that the cryptic move from the Death Stranding director follows right after he shared pictures of his visit to Naughty Dog and his meeting with Neil Druckmann, the director behind the forthcoming Akira-inspired game.

Hideo Kojima Could Be Teasing an Appearance in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

Since his cryptic social media post, many fans have been speculating about a possible cameo from Kojima in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. While making an in-game appearance may not be the Japanese veteran’s usual contribution to such projects, it is certainly not outside the realm of possibility. That’s because Kojima has appeared in multiple games in the past, including his own work such as Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, and third-party titles such as Cyberpunk 2077. Apart from the ex-Konami lead, other popular faces have also been spotted by fans in the Intergalactic trailer.

Along with lots of speculation and excitement surrounding Naughty Dog’s next game, there are certain sections of fans that haven’t taken well to Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet‘s reveal. However, given the Druckmann-led studio’s track record, players may still want to bank on the spacefaring game coming out to positive reception in the future.
