A Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom player is getting into the holiday spirit by building Link a festive, Christmas-themed house with working lights. Since launching on the Nintendo Switch last May, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been one of the system’s highest-selling and critically acclaimed exclusives. A major part of that success and longevity comes from Tears of the Kingdom’s crafting mechanic, which allows Link to use his new Ultrahand ability to piece together virtually anything he needs from the scrap lying about the lands of Hyrule.

This has opened the door for creative players to build impressive vehicles, weapons, and buildings in The Legen of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom’s open-world sandbox and show them off on social media for fellow gamers to appreciate. From strange sea horse-like flying machines to thrilling airship battles and blistering podraces inspired by Star Wars, the past couple of years have been filled with talented Zelda fans dreaming up awe-inspiring creations to either help Link save Hyrule or simply demonstrate their skills to the rest of the internet.

After Echoes of Wisdom and Tears of the Kingdom, one mechanic from recent Legend of Zelda games looks like it may be here to stay.

Christmas is now a little over a week away, and Reddit user kmarkow has already built Link a festive virtual house to celebrate the upcoming holiday. As shown in a clip posted to r/HyruleEngineering, a subreddit dedicated to player creations in Tears of the Kingdom, this three-story house is decorated with luminous stones that make a fitting substitute for traditional Christmas lights – and they look especially pretty when shown at night. The user also gave Link a makeshift Christmas tree built from a stone Zonai wing.

Other Reddit users have complimented kmarkow for their holiday-themed work, with some even making references to the classic Christmas movie National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. When asked how long it took to put everything together, kmarkow said that they might have spent about one to two hours building the house – with even more time dedicated to gathering the needed materials like Tears of the Kingdom luminous stones and dragon spikes.

Even before The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom opened the door for festive in-game tributes to the Christmas season, fans of Nintendo’s iconic dungeon-crawling RPG series have come up with their own special Yuletide celebrations. From Zelda-themed Christmas trees to fan-made Hyrule Christmas albums, the winter holidays have a tendency to ignite gamers creatively, and this rings true for kmarkow’s impressive Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom holiday house.
