Squad Busters has arrived with the December 2024 update, the final update of the year. This is a major update, that brings us a Christmas-festive Squadmas event, a new game mode in Showdown, an update to the Ranked modes, and more to the players. Here’s what Squad Busters has in store for you as we wrap up 2024 and celebrate the holiday season.

Squad Busters December 2024 update: All new features and changes

Introducing Showdown Mode

The talking point of this update is the introduction of this new mode. Curious about what it feels like to focus less on farming and more on action? Showdown is a new five-player mode that simplifies the rules and shifts the focus to being the last Squad standing.

Key Features of Showdown Mode are given below:

  • No Gems are available, so it is just Coins to grow your Squad.
  • New Mega Potions offer power and speed boosts.
  • You need to bust other Squads to collect Coins and dominate.

To help you strategize, a Squad health bar shows how many characters and how much health each Squad has. But beware of shrinking vines that force you toward a different location each match.

Duo Mode in Gem Hunt

The much-loved Gem Hunt mode isn’t going anywhere, and now you can team up with a friend in Gem Hunt Duo. Your total Gem score will be shared with your teammate, and buffs like Heal and Rage spells will apply to both of you if you stick close.

If your friend is Busted, they can reassemble a small Squad from nearby Chests, but if both of you are eliminated, it’s game over. This cooperative twist brings a new layer of strategy and teamwork to Squad Busters.

Ranked Mode Updates

Ranked mode is getting its own spotlight, separate from the World Journey. You can now compete for Trophies and climb local and global leaderboards. To participate, you’ll need to have at least five Common, Rare, and Epic characters unlocked.

In Ranked mode, you can build your own lineup, which will help a lot of players. Along with these changes, the update includes buffs to several Attackers and slight nerfs to the Barbarian King and Archer Queen.

Chest Tickets and Win Streaks retired

As announced last month, the Squad Busters team has decided to end win streaks and Chest Tickets. As a replacement, you’ll now receive a reward Chest after every match. The condition for this is you should finish in the top eight. Higher rankings will bring more upgrade taps and Babies to help you grow stronger.

In addition, a new daily reward track has been introduced. Winning matches will help you progress along this track, allowing you to unlock boxes with various rewards. Your first win of the day will also be granted a Portal Energy bonus. As a parting gift, based on your highest-ever streak, you can claim special souvenirs once you update your game on Monday.

Celebrate Squadmas with Festive Skins

The Squadmas event kicks off on December 23rd, 2024, running until January 5th, 2025. During this time, Candy Canes will appear in battles. Collect them to unlock Chests and special Squadmas Skins, including Nutcracker Greg, Cookie Goblin, Ice Barbarian King, and Toy Nita. Additionally, the Squadmas Advent Calendar will offer daily rewards, including a special Ultra character choice on December 25th.

Reflecting on 2024 and future sneak peeks

Even though Squad Busters has grown a massive player base since its launch, the team acknowledges the challenges faced, including technical issues and updates that didn’t always resonate. Looking ahead, they promise bold changes to improve the game, even if it means taking a little more time between updates.

There will be no new Worlds or Characters for now, but a roadmap for the next six months will be revealed in early 2025. We need to wait for now as this might indicate even more fun and action with Squad Busters, all things considered.
