Summary
- Sonic X Shadow Generations Movie Pack DLC is out now.
- It has some easy-to-miss Easter Eggs, which fans are hunting down now.
- One of them is a reference to the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog cartoon.
Remember Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog? No? Well, even if you’ve never seen a single episode, you’ve certainly seen frames from one. Ever since the dawn of YouTube, this 1990s kids’ cartoon has been memed to hell and back, something which has passed from generation to generation.
It looks like Sonic Team hasn’t forgotten about this iconic part of the series’ history either. As spotted in Sonic X Shadow Generations‘ Movie Pack DLC, there’s a reference to Eggman’s appearance in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog – which makes sense since he’s the centre of most of the more well-known memes.
Sonic X Shadow Generations’ New DLC Has An Unexpected Easter Egg
Someone at Sonic Team remembers that the ’90s cartoons exist
With the DLC out now, fans have had a good look at the new stage that it adds to the game. And while some are frustrated with how quickly you can breeze through it, there’s certainly a lot of detail thrown in there to encourage you to take it slowly for a change.
One of them is, indeed, a reference to Eggman. Or, more specifically, Eggman as he appeared in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. Or, as this is often shortened to: Pingas. That’s a reference to a misheard line in the show, where it sounds like Eggman is yelling that word. And if you didn’t already know that, then me explaining it probably just killed the joke. I think you just had to be there (by which I mean on the internet in the mid-2000s).
Another fan has spotted a sign that reads “Meanbeans Coffee”, a nod to the game Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine. Which is possibly one of the best game titles out there, to be quite honest.
The Sonic X Shadow Generations Movie Pack is out now. It’ll set you back $5.99 and unlocks a new stage. On this stage, you play as Shadow from the upcoming movie, Sonic the Hedgehog 3, complete with voice acting from Keanu Reeves. It only includes one Act though, with no Act 2 or boss battle.
Sonic X Shadow Generations is a double package of a remastered version of the 2011 title Sonic Generations, alongside an all-new campaign featuring Shadow the Hedgehog and both 2D and 3D levels.
