As Wizard of Legend 2 early access rolls on, developer Dead Mage has a hefty new update for its action roguelike. If you’ve been sitting on your hands waiting patiently for a new Hades 2 update, this Diablo-adjacent dungeon crawler is one to keep on your radar. It offers all manner of stylish and powerful Arcana, a blend of magical powers, attacks, and spells that combine the elements to unleash devastation upon your foes. The new Wizard of Legend 2 update is the first major expansion since its early access launch, and it’s a big one.
The Wizard of Legend 2 Sky Citadel update introduces a biome of the same name – an aerial fortress inspired by the first game. This new region features a fresh tileset and music, and of course, plays home to plenty of new threats that you’ll have to contend with. There are a total of twelve new enemies coming to the roguelike, along with two boss fights. The Sky Citadel’s miniboss is the Royal Spear Knight, who boasts precision strikes, while its final showdown pits you against the region’s rulers, the King and Queen.
Dash Arcana are making a return from the original game. A popular request from the community, these give you all manner of ways to enhance your combat strategies with dash modifiers. If you’re a fan of games like Hades, you’ll know just how powerful these can be, allowing you to damage or reposition enemies or trigger other powerful attacks while also moving around the stage, dodging attacks, and zooming across gaps. There are 15 options to discover, with Dead Mage promising a mix of “fan favorites and brand-new additions.”
Two new NPCs have arrived. Esme is a painter who can enhance your arcana cards with gold to further tweak your build mid-run, while the returning Dr. Song takes card donations to further her studies of healing arcana, and will offer you potent relics for your troubles. Other NPCs have also had updates including new voice lines, and Voltran Thunder Ace has had a full re-recording “for a fresh take on his electrifying persona.”
Elsewhere, you can look out for new customization options, updates to several boss behaviors including a full rework for Terrus based on player feedback, improved local co-op menus, and a range of balance changes to hone the experience further. If you’ve already been playing Wizard of Legend 2, you’ll definitely want to jump back in and take a look at what’s changed – and if you’ve yet to give it a try, now might be the time.
The Wizard of Legend 2 Sky Citadel update is out now. You can buy the game on Steam in early access, priced at $24.99 / £19.99. Just head here to take a look.
