While some of the update’s features have had some issues, for the most part, things seem to be working relatively smoothly. This article will take a look at some of the recent changes that came to the game with the Gleaming Depths update in Fallout 76.
8 More Information For Scrapping Legendary Items
Know Exactly What You Might Get
Prior to this update, upon scrapping a legendary armor piece or weapon, players would receive some scrip and some junk. While this has remained the same, there’s now a more detailed breakdown surrounding what effects players have the chance to unlock or obtain. When scrapping a legendary item, players have a small chance to either get a box mod with one of the scrapped item’s legendary effects, or they may actually learn the ability to craft certain legendary effects straight onto items.
Before this update, players couldn’t see which effects they could get via box mod and which could be learned. Now, players can see exactly what they could get for scrapping any legendary item.
7 More Mutated Events
More Variation For Players
Mutated Events are a great way to earn some potentially rare rewards. While the events are quite fun, because there aren’t that many different types of Mutated Events, it can get a little stale after a while.
Bethesda added five more Mutated Events for players to enjoy. Just like the initial batch of Mutated Events, these are more difficult versions of existing events. The list of new additions and the effects to go with them can be seen below:
- Campfire Tales: Volatile And Blood Mutations
- Free Range: Resilient And Swift-Footed Mutations
- Project Paradise: Active Camouflage And Resilient Mutations
- Beasts Of Burden: Freezing Tough And Reflective Mutations
- Safe And Sound: Swift-Focused And Danger Cloud Mutations
6 More Loot On Enemies
Fewer Weapons But More Junk
When killed, human enemies, Super Mutants, and just about every other enemy type that can fire a gun will now drop a handful of junk items. This is great for those looking to fill their stash boxes with resources. Enemies also have a reduced chance of dropping a weapon upon death.
Instead, the player gets to keep their carry weight in order as they won’t need to search for a workbench while carrying countless weapons. Junk items, for the most part, are considerably lighter than weapons. Also, since Scrap Kits are something that players can earn or buy, there will be no need for them to keep heading back to CAMP to offload some of their items as often as they used to.
5 Changes To Perk Cards
Some Big Changes To Costly Cards
Bethesda made some big changes to a few of the existing perk cards. Previously, there were plenty of perk cards that felt a little too costly. Some of them have had their requirements greatly reduced, allowing players to include even more perk cards in their build.
Cards such as Four Leaf Clover, All Night Long, and Hard Bargain now cost just one SPECIAL skill point. Prior to this update, players needed to invest three points into these cards to max them out.
4 CAMP Pets
Enjoy The Company Of A Furry Friend
CAMP pets have been in the game for a while. However, the ways to obtain them weren’t easy. Prior to this update, players could only get a pet by attempting to tame wild creatures. This feature was buggy, and it wasn’t uncommon for players to lose their pets either through a bug or by them dying to enemy attacks.

Now players can have their own canine or feline friend at their CAMP. Players can either purchase them through the Atomic Shop or unlock them via the season scoreboard. They can’t be killed by enemy attacks, either.
3 Raids
Head Into The Gleaming Depths Caverns
Vault raids used to be in the game a long time ago. After being removed, most players figured that the raids would remain a thing of the past, but Bethesda has surprised some by bringing back vault raids that are much larger and more deadly than ever before.
Players need to work together to complete the new raid and take down the Ultracite Terror. This game mode is challenging and fun, and it offers players the chance to obtain new and exciting rewards.
Makes Running A Caravan More Profitable
When it was released, the Caravan update received a fair amount of criticism surrounding its rather repetitive missions and lackluster rewards. Many players saw caravan missions as a job rather than a game mode.

The Gleaming Depths update has increased the amount of rewards that players receive upon completing a caravan mission. Not only that, but the enemies that spawn during these missions are now more balanced, making it fairer for lower-level players. It also makes it considerably more challenging for veteran players, allowing them to earn more XP for killing tougher enemies.
1 A Minigun Bug Fix
The Removal Of An Annoying Bug
Like with all of Fallout 76’s updates, Gleaming Depths has brought in a bunch of new fixes to make the game run more efficiently. While this update did bring in quite a lot of bug fixes, there’s one that stood out above the rest: The fix to minigun sounds.
Prior to this update, there was a rather annoying bug around Super Mutants involving the minigun. When a Super Mutant was killed while firing a minigun, the firing sound would continue indefinitely. This could only be fixed by leaving the area. Now, players will no longer have to listen to the endless sound of a minigun being fired from beyond the grave.
