Earlier this week, The Game Awards 2024 delivered one of its strongest shows yet, which had a bigger focus on both the awards we’re all there to see and the announcements that are peppered in between. There were a lot of standout reveals during the show, but it closed off with an absolute doozy – the unveiling of what Naughty Dog has been working on for four years.

Surprisingly, the game in question wasn’t themed around fantasy like we had all believed and is instead a space game called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Neil Druckmann Heard The Complaints About The Last Of Us’ Many Remasters
Although four years and above is depressingly becoming the norm for gaming development times, the silence regarding Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was undoubtedly made worse by how many remasters and remakes Naughty Dog released over the past few years. Fans were getting upset at how stifled Naughty Dog appeared to be, something that CEO Neil Druckmann has recently commented on.
In an interview with The New York Times regarding the reveal of Intergalactic, Druckmann said that he was “keenly aware” of how long fans have been waiting to hear what was next from Naughty Dog, and that it was very difficult to keep quiet about it while also releasing several remasters and remakes of The Last of Us over the past few years.
It’s really hard to work on these things in secret and silence for so many years, and then to see our fans go on social media and say, ‘Enough with the remasters and remakes! Where are your new games and new IPs? – Neil Druckmann
Druckmann specifically said that it was “really hard” to work on Intergalactic with “secret and silence” for so long, especially when he saw the reactions from fans on social media asking where the new games and IP were among the re-releases. It’s clear that Naughty Dog has heard all of the complaints about how many times The Last of Us has been remastered recently.
