Summary
- Louie from Pikmin is a gluttonous and lazy worker who is also very forgetful.
- Marie from Splatoon prefers to avoid thrilling activities.
- King Dedede from Kirby is a shabby ruler who’s lazy and prefers to snack while his minions work.
Over the many years that they’ve been creating games in the industry, Nintendo has amassed a massive catalog of characters, many of which feel very distinct and recognizable thanks to their own unique personality quirks. For some, like Mario and Fox, it’s their positive can-do attitude that makes them a joy to play as, but some characters have also been known for being a little on the lazy side, preferring to chill out and relax while ignoring their responsibilities altogether.

8 Unluckiest Nintendo Characters, Ranked
These Nintendo characters just can’t seem to shake off their bad luck no matter how hard they try.
Thankfully, the protagonists of these respective games tend to do all the heavy lifting in place of these individuals so they can afford to be so slothful and disinterested. In other instances though, it’s actually the villain who displays lazy characteristics, as if they’re simply too strong to be bothered, or even the hero who sleeps on the job. Either way, these are the characters from Nintendo games who are among some of the laziest of all.
8 Louie
A Clever But Ultimately Lazy And Gluttonous Member Of The Cast
- First Appearance: Pikmin 2
This employee of Hocatate Freight is not at all bothered about his job or comrades. Instead, the only thing Louie seemingly cares about is eating anything that catches his eye, including entire shipments of food, which makes him very unpopular with the other characters. Despite it being implied Louie has a bright head on his shoulders, he willingly lets others do the work for him, as seen in the fourth game where he seems less than bothered about rescuing Olimar.
Louie’s passion for eating often sees him become an antagonist in some of the games who is always trying to cover his tracks. Rather than putting his mind to good use, Louie’s laziness ends up making him more of a villain than the hero he could potentially become.
7 Marie
Marie Is Much More Relaxed And A Little Lazy Compared To Her Cousin
- First Appearance: Splatoon
Marie, one half of the Squid Sisters duo, is a chilled-out and relaxed character of the Splatoon cast who is known for being one of, if not the most laid-back character in the series. When she’s not performing, Marie enjoys playing video games or enjoying slices of pizza, so much so that she even stated that she would enjoy being a part of Team Future so she could “print out pizza slices.”
While it’s certainly not a bad thing for Marie to enjoy her own company, it does mean she tends to avoid partaking in any kind of thrilling activities, and can even become grumpy if someone tries to encourage her to do so. When compared to her spunky cousin Callie, Marie is definitely the lazier of the two.
6 King Hippo
King Hippo’s ‘Training Sessions’ Involve Eating Mountains Of Food And Napping
- First Appearance: Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out!!
Little Mac, the protagonist of the Punch-Out!! series is forced to work his backside off in order to climb the boxing ranks, but this certainly doesn’t apply to one of his most fearsome opponents, King Hippo. In the pre-match cutscene for Punch-Out!! for the Wii, players are granted a glimpse into what Hippo’s average training session looks like, and it’s fair to say it isn’t exactly a strategy that involves much effort.

After consuming giant mountains of food, Hippo will then hit the hay and rest until the sun rises again. Clearly, Hippo’s intimidating size is what gives him the biggest boost in combat, though it’s also incredibly unfair that someone as lazy as he gets to be in the same league as a hard-working underdog such as Mac.
5 Snorlax
The Laziest Pokemon Can Only Be Woken Up With Special Items
- First Appearance: Pokemon Red & Blue
Any time the lovable Snorlax shows up in a Pokemon game, they can always be found lying down on the floor and enjoying a good rest. This has become such a recognizable part of Snorlax’s character that many of the games will make it a challenge for the player to try and wake the creature up, which is a much harder task than it sounds.
In Pokemon Red and Blue for example, players will need to seek out a Poke Flute for Snorlax to move out of their way, and the same goes for Pokemon Let’s Go, where a Snorlax can be seen lying in the middle of a pathway in Verillion City. Snorlax can still deal some significant damage if he’s forced to do battle, but when he’s not being ordered around by a trainer, he’s either resting his eyes or snacking on another bowl of fruit.
4 Walrus
The Walrus Decides To Sleep Right In The Middle Of The Yarna Desert Entrance
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening (1993)
- First Appearance: The Legend Of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
Fairly early on in the journey of Link’s Awakening, players will be tasked with entering Yarna Desert, only to encounter a walrus who lies in their way. This big and bulky creature won’t move a muscle no matter how much Link tries to wake him up, resulting in him becoming a real annoyance due to his laziness.

10 Best Zelda Games Where Ganon Isn’t The Primary Antagonist
Ganon is one of the most iconic villains in gaming history, but he misses out on the Legend of Zelda games on this list.
In fact, the only way to get this guy to move a few inches so Link can get past is by calling on Marin to sing him a song, and only then will he slowly shift from his spot. Despite being a minor character in the game, the walrus has become pretty infamous for how irritating he can be, and it all came down to the fact he decided to rest his head in the middle of a pathway without a car in the world for others.
3 King Dedede
Dedede’s Slothfulness Makes Him A Pretty Shabby Ruler
- First Appearance: Kirby’s Dream Land
Despite being the main antagonist of the Kirby series, King Dedede isn’t exactly in any rush to stop his opponent, that is, unless food is involved. Most of the time though, Dedede will let his Waddle Dees do his dirty work for him while he lies around and snacks on anything he can get his hands on.
He may be a king, but Dedede cares little about actually ruling over his own people. Additionally, since he’s always being possessed and controlled, he ends up being a pretty miserable leader overall whose lazy tendencies actually make him pretty similar to his arch-rival, Kirby.
2 Wario
Wario Would Be A Much Bigger Problem For Mario To Deal With If He Put In More Effort
- First Appearance: Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
To put it simply, Wario is everything that Mario isn’t. Unlike his inspiration, Wario doesn’t possess a happy-go-lucky attitude and often tries to avoid embarking on long and arduous journeys unless someone is willing to pay him in shiny treasure for his efforts. At the beginning of Wario Land: Shake It, the main protagonist can be seen snoozing away in his car, and this isn’t just a one-time occurrence, as napping on the job is a big trend of Wario’s.
While he does obsess over trying to one-up Mario whenever possible, Wario puts in nowhere near as much effort as say Bowser for example when trying to achieve this, even though he could probably conjure up some pretty evil schemes if he took a break from eating garlic and picking his nose.
1 Kirby
Sleeping Is The Achilles Heel Of Dreamland’s Hero
- First Appearance: Kirby’s Dream Land
Despite being the hero of his respective series, Kirby has one major flaw; his love for sleeping. Any time Kirby isn’t being sucked into a new dimension or being attacked by Waddle Dees, he can always be shown counting sheep while the world passes him by. This does make some sense considering that Kirby resides in a place called Dream Land, but the pink puffball’s laziness still isn’t one of his greatest character traits.
This characteristic of Kirby actually becomes a huge annoyance for the series’ anti-hero, Meta Knight, who has been shown numerous times taking center stage when a new threat arrives since Kirby is too busy sleeping. Kirby’s sleepiness does add a lot of charm to his character, but it can also cause him to be on the back foot when he finally awakens, only to find Dream Land in a crisis.
